      A fable:

There were several people at a place of work who had mouse pads with pictures of women on them. Nothing particularly racey or demeaning. A new department supervisor was hired and he told the workers to dispose of the pads because he deemed the images inappropriate for a place of business. All but one worker threw out their pads. The one placed his in a desk drawer. Nine months later the supervisor fell from favor with the company owners and was dismissed. The one worker retrieved his sequestered mouse pad from the drawer and worked on in quiet contentment.

yes it makes sense to call people Indians when they are not from India.

They didn't appear out of thin air, either. By this politically-correct logic, we should call all white people "European-Americans" because I have now decided that I find the term "white" to be offensive. And we should get rid of the Notre Dame Gipper because I find it offensive to Irish people. But of course if there's ever any outcry from the conservative white persuasion, it's deemed as racism.

I don't think its even a matter of PC. They were originally called Indians b/c Columbus thought he was in Asia. let me play devil's advocate here. how would you differentiate between someone who is an 'indian' as you might want to say and someone who is from the country of India? doesn't make sense to me. I say "Native American" just to clarify and make it known ethnicity w/o the confusion.

as for the whole Caucasian -american issues, i don't think those are in the same light. yes you could call someone w/ ancestry from europe that, or are they white, or whatever. semantics to be argued either way.

I will say like you that I'm not offended by the display. but at the same time why would I even have a say in it? if some people that were Native American dislike it, then so be it.
either way I don't care too much for Illini athletics, I get tired of all their press, and look forward to the day when Bradley's basketball program eclipses them. GoBraves
