  • New Story on Decatur Christian HS

A new Rivals subscription article about Decatur Christian School has some very interesting material.

First there were rumors that Decatur Christian would not continue as a prep school next season. Then the head coach of DCS, Alan Huss apparently called and talked to the writer of the Rivals article, Brad Sturdy, and said they are working to get the school approved to continue as a "prep school"-caliber team for next year. That means it isn't a certainty and it is up to the school board of the small, private Christian school.
It is said to be a topic that will be discussed and possibly voted on at their next board meeting, but he didn't say when.

In the meantime, the Rivals writer asks coach Huss about all his players, and the rest of the article is all about the players.
They talk a little about Beas Hamga and Lucca Staiger who are committed to Iowa and Iowa State resectively.

Then they discuss Darrington Hobson who has been mentioned as a possible Bradley recruit.
They state that Hobson has been sitting out the entire season, and played his very first minutes just last Saturday against Decatur Eisenhower. They also state that Hobson has some problems academically and the time sitting out has helped him get caught up.
Then they describe how in the very first few minutes Hobson was on the court against Decatur Eisenhower last Saturday, he injured his ankle and is now done for the season.

Hobson might still entertain college offers, or he may reclassify as a junior, and try to make a comeback next year, and not try to go to college this year.

I will compile more info from some other sources about Decatur Christian and pass it along....

Tornado calling out DP!!! Danny seems like a good kid and he probably sees a lot of games. However, making statements that aren't truthful (especially ones that can easily be caught) is step 1 in PR no-no's.

Hobson might still entertain college offers, or he may reclassify as a junior, and try to make a comeback next year, and not try to go to college this year.
Looks like Kansas St., Cincy, and Memphis may be good places for him to look at....

What statement did i make that was untruthful???

If you are talking about the fact that Huss said hobson "didnt play all season" then alan (a good friends of mine) mustve forgotten the prep classic in deerfield when i believe it was johan mpondo broke his thumb and Darrington injured his leg in a game vs. cornerstone as demonstrated by this picture i took.....

I have seen Decatur Prep play five times, three of which were in the Thanksgiving tourney in Peoria, and every time they had regular, nice, trimmed uniforms.
The one Hobson is wearing in that pic is a cheap untrimmed practice jersey, like what they wear at summer tourneys, so what gives?
Here is a video of their usual jerseys.

By the way, the Prep Classic in Deerfield was before the IHSA basketball season began. Maybe that's why they wore different jerseys?

Decatur Christian is in a big prep tourney in Tennessee.

They have not done well in two games.

Last night they lost to Hope Christian 50-46, with only one player in doubble figures, and their big star Beas Hamga injuring and possibly breaking his finger.
They could be running out of gas after playing a long and difficult schedule.

Anyone interested, here's an audio interview with the coach at Decatur Christian HS, Alan Huss.
He describes how all the players practice up to 5 hours a day, all year long, similar to the training regimen of college athletes.
He also reveals some of the story on how Decatur Christian "recruits" the players they have after following them at major AAU events.

I think it's just a matter of time until this program and others like Boys to Men end up just closing shop and disappearing as soon as the NCAA starts to dig a little.
