  • Bradley Leaves the Hilltop for UE

Bradley's leaving campus at 10:40 today. Just talked to Les and wished him lucked as I was leaving class. He said they're a little behind schedule but not much. So the team should be in E-Ville in plenty of time for warm-ups.

Jim Les alluded to this in today's Dave Reynolds article--
Of course, just getting to the southern Indiana city because of Tuesday's blizzard was expected to be a challenge for the Braves, who were scheduled to depart Tuesday on a 5 p.m. charter flight. That plan was being strongly reconsidered Tuesday afternoon, which put the Braves in the rare situation of leaving for an out-of-state road contest on the day of the game.

"I've wanted to try that anyway," Les said. "Other teams in our league do it."

Most teams prefer to travel the day before a road game and Bradley has usually done this (except ISU) for many years, not just under Jim Les. But there are a number of schools, including some very successful ones, that prefer to travel to road games on the day of the game (assuming the trip isn't an all-day thing). Some coaches think staying overnight in hotels is a distraction and it's harder to get kids to get the right amount of rest. Now Jim gets to try this by necessity.

I like the idea of going the same day so the players can sleep in their own beds and it keeps a lot of distractions away from them.
