Illinois Brian Carlwell in critical condition after accident
There may very well be alcohol involved but the media might be writing generously for the families of the player and the school, for now anyways. The media will change there tune once its confirmed that a U of I player won't die and all the icing comes off the cake.
If alcohol was a factor, wouldn't there be a public record of this in a police report?
Possibly not....since Jamar left the scene of the accident, perhaps he went to the hospital on his own or had someone else take him there.
Once he is a patient, then the results of his lab tests are NOT always readily available to the police. The police may have to subpoena the lab results before knowing if they are positive.
Drove to his Apt. parking lot, WTF? Give this kid some jail time or somethin, got a passenger nearly dying and he drives away probably delaying help arriving by 5-10 minutes at least. Still amazing he was able to drive it after the pics of that damage. No wonder a Lexus is so expensive.
Does anyone else feel that if alcohol had a part to play in this unfortunate mishap, this may very well be the final straw for Weber? I think his inability to recruit as well as some high profile problems with players very well may force the Illinois big whigs to look in another direction.

Are you serious? The Illini Nation loves Weber, I haven't been keeping up on the boards like I used but I don't think Weber is going anywhere anytime soon. He has brought in some great recruits and only lost Eric Gordon due to circumstances outside his control(lets not turn this into an Eric Gordon to Indiana debate).
Maybe I have missed something but I don't think Weber's too concerned about Job Security. Bill 'I can't get it done when it matters' Self got a 'better' job after being less succesful than Weber.
Speculation in this matter is bad, but keep in mind too that concussions are a weird beast. Obviously Jamar made a mistake by driving away, but at the same time, he may not have really made a conscious decision to drive away. From Webmd.com on the symptoms of a concussion:
Symptoms of a concussion include:
Passing out.
Not being able to remember what happened after the injury.
Acting confused, asking the same question over and over, slurring words, or not being able to concentrate.
Feeling lightheaded, seeing "stars," having blurry vision, or experiencing ringing in the ears.
Not being able to stand or walk; or having coordination and balance problems.
Feeling nauseated or throwing up.
I've also talked to people before that have gotten concussions playing sports or something, not thought anything of it, kept playing, then suddenly felt strange and not remembered that they had continued to play. It's possible that Jamar was drunk and fled from the scene because he was afraid. It's also possible that he was not thinking clearly at all and acted with only the best intensions. We don't know, I'm just glad it looks like everybody is going to be ok.
One line from the first article-- Smith -- who apparently was driving his grandparents' Lexus because his regular vehicle, believed to be a Saturn SUV, was being repaired -- had blood drawn at Carle. The results of the blood test could take four to six weeks, authorities said.
This is simply ridiculous. A blood alcohol test, and toxicology screens take just a few minutes to run, and probably they have already been done at the hospital, and results are known to somebody.
Anyone hearing rumors about Jamar being back in Peoria? The Illini boards are filled with rumors and speculation about everything under the sun and I was wondering if any Peorians are hearing the same things. PM me with what you heard. Thanks.
It was reported by one of the local Champaign TV news stations that Jamar has returned to Peoria and is with his family.
There are indeed a lot of rumors, but several people who are at least close or have connections at the university say the news and details of what hapened that night, that will soon be coming out are not good, and are may be worse than originally thought.
From Illini forum:
"did WDWS really report that.....
players from the basketball team, including jamar and brian, were drinking at a party the night of the accident?
speaking from personal experience, i'm certainly not going to get down on them for drinking but i can't say the same about jamar's getting behind the wheel after drinking.
but if this were true, jamar's behavior after the wreck makes a lot more sense and, it's possible that his self-interested actions might have saved him from certain -- but not all --criminal liability. so we can't get too down on the guy."
Confirmed:
"WDWS did report that they had sources that said that Jamar and Brian were at a party Monday night and were drinking. This continues to get worse every day. It's time for the authorities and the athletic department to make a definitive statement and stop the speculation and rumor mill."
