  • Suicide Watch....

I just read where Dick Vitale is one of the nominees who is up for election to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
If Vitale gets elected, I'm not sure I can be held responsible if I do anything irrational upon hearing it.

I do too! I saw him speak when I attended Bradley about a dozen years ago. He is an eloquent speaker who loves life and the game of basketball. He is a sincerely nice guy who is not phony about his personality.

Now some may hate his ranting about his Dukies all the time, but he has done more to champion the cause of the "mid-majors" than most of the major pundants. Yes, he may have a bit of a bias toward the big guys, and yes his "cheerleading" may be irritating to some, but I think he is more fair than the Diggers of the world, and definately light years more likeable than the Packers of the world!

I for one am glad to see him earn this wonderful honor!

Couldn't have said it better. Of course all the "Duke this ... and Duke that" gets quite annoying, but he seems to have such a passion for the college game, that I have a ton of respect for him, and I'm happy for him that he is getting this honor.

                    Dickie V

A friend of mine visited Florida a few years back and inadvertantly ran into Vitale at a restaurant inside of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays stadium while attending a game with his family while on vacation from NC.

Vitale took the time to say hi and chat with him and his family about NC, ACC basketball, Jim Valvano and many other topics. At the end of the conversation Vitale invited the whole family to drop by his home during their vacation.

Long story short..............they stopped by the gated community a day or two later and the guard had to buzz Vitale at his home to find out if this was legit. Vitale had the guard show them to his home where he proceeded to give them a grand tour of his home, trophy room, etc. (though I don't think Vitale's wife was real happy).

Needless to say, this was an experience that they'll never forget. My friend sent Vitale a thank you letter and a check for the Jimmy V Foundation when he got back to NC.

So, with Dickie V what you see is what you get

Yea... but who's your friend? Jimmy Patsos?

Just kidding. Nice 'look-in' on Dickie-V. I, too, like him - the person... but when he starts into his Vitale-gasms... I mute the tv or change the channel.
