As she deserves to! As a Bradley Cheerleader I was very offended by the criticism and negativity that surrounded her article. I am a science major, involved in other extracurricular activities including a national service fraternity and other volunteer and social activities. I am going to attend graduate school next year to earn my Ph.D. in chemistry. Her article does not consider the people behind the uniform, but instead puts down our hard work and intelligence which already is rarely recognized. I think I speak for my entire team when I say that we are all deeply offended by this article. I personally hope that she never makes any of her students feel like less of an intelligent, strong, athletic woman for wearing a skirt.

This writer points the finger at the middle-aged man as the problem, but she needs to look no further than her own political party to blame. I suggest starting with the 'Hollywood Left'. Don't blame the Middle-aged Conservative Man... he is just a spectator at the GAME. Really, all the liberal left wants anymore of the middle-aged man is to be just that.. a spectator, an observer. Just sit back and shut up - because whatever you say is gonna be politically incorrect.

Now, go back to your teaching of 7th graders and brainwash them all by recreating history.

And I will go back into my quiet dark hole that is reserved for middle-aged men.

I respectfully disagree with most of the opinions stated here. BUCheer07, I don't think her intent in writing the editorial was to demonize the cheerleaders themselves, or Bradley as a whole. What she was doing was pointing out that cheerleading uniforms are a microcosm for society as a whole.

Can anybody deny that cheerleading uniforms have gotten smaller and smaller? That's not really up for debate; it's a fact. Simply looking at pictures of years past will confirm that.

Likewise, does her editorial state that its the cheerleader's fault? It does not. it doesn't really pin the blame on the 'middle age male' spectator, either.

She was simply lamenting the constant 'oversexing' of society. And in that, I agree. She was pointing out that its become so pervasive, that one can't find refuge anywhere, even a family-friendly college basketball game.

Whose to blame? I have my own opinions, but Ill keep them to myself. I just wanted to give her my support as I happen to agree with her, but felt that her article is being misinterpreted.

And, for the record, BUCheer07, I think you cheerleaders do a GREAT job. I know the uniforms aren't your choice and have never held them against you. Hey, im a 26 year old man, i enjoy seeing the coeds in their outfits, and I enjoy the dance team's outfits as well. But, Im also reasonable and I understand where she's coming from.

Is this supposed to be a letter to the editor? If it was then I understand the complete opinionated point of view of the letter, if this was an article written by a PJS staff writer or a person paid by the PJS then the total disregard for research into the apparent non change in uniform, the decision to opinonate the personalities of the Cheerleaders, the idea she knows what is or isnt objective to a middle aged man or the simple disregard for any type of journalistic intergrety is on the PJS.

Again, I do not know if this was written as a letter to the editor but if it was not the fingers that need to be pointed are at the PJS for deciding to print an article written in a completely unprofessional, uniformed manner. Shame on you PJS.

I like Dave Reynolds.
He is fair and never seems to rip on BU as if it is his job at the PJS.
Even when he has an honestly low opinion of BU as he did when he voted them down in the Valley preseason, he is fair enough to acknowledge they've done much better!

I like Dave Reynolds.

In this article, Dave Reynolds shows how to present the columnist's opinion without the blaring that some other writers seem to think is necessary. It happens in all professions, not just journalism, where people start to think that their opinion is the news and not the story they are covering.

Dont forget that Dave is the PJS BU beat writer. It is not his job to editorialize. I agree he has always been fair when covering BU. Kirk Wessler (as I am assuming some are alluding to) is aneditorial writer. It is his job to opine and he does it often, much to the disdain of some BU fans. But they have different roles in writing about BU

Great point and that is an important aspect to keep in mind when reading the various columnists and reporters. All the same, my issue with several "editiorial" writers (yes, one happens to be employed by the PJS) is that they "sometimes" feel compelled to voice their opinions in such strident tones and bring their personal umbrage and hostility into their stories to such an extent that they are more concerned with beating their chests than providing support for their views.

While DR is not an editorial writer, he did voice his personal viewpoints in this story and rationally explained why he felt the way he does on this topic. A sign of good writing. If I want someone beating a drum, there are a lot of rags out there that do it a lot better than what we have seen out of the PJS (i.e., if you are going to stir the fire with a stick, at least be good at it)
