  • Mock NCAA bracket up on ESPN...

20 sportswriters from around the country got together in Indianapolis, and were given the task of making a mock NCAA bracket. They were given the same computer polls and everything else that is given to the actual NCAA selection committee.

FOUR Valley team's are included in the bracket:

    - SIU is given a 5 seed and a matchup against Hofstra in Buffalo (pretty much a road game for the Salukis)

    - Creighton is listed as a 9 seed, pitted up against Va. Tech

    - Missouri State gets the 10 seed and a date with Gonzaga, which, IMO, would be a great first round game to watch

    - and finally Evansville, yes, EVANSVILLE, is awarded the 13 seed and would play Butler in Columbus, OH. Seriously, I think the writers must have just put the rest of the Valley teams in a hat and seeded whichever team was drawn out for this one...

People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

Then I guess that makes our game at Evansville this Wednesday HUGE! We can steal the 4th spot! Ha!

The article said that the writers were given the information that Evansville won the MVC tournament.

"By the time you get to the last at-large selections, you encounter the 2 a.m. bar effect: there are no more bombshells left in the place, but you've got to take somebody home." - from Pat Forde's article.

So at least one expert finally admits that they make some of their decisions without a lot of logic. Comparing the selection of the last at-large picks to the "2 a.m. bar effect" probaly means that the people doing the picking have their judgement impaired by their inebriation, and are and settling for someone ugly and undesireable, just so they don't go home with nothing.

Post-Dispatch columnist Bryan Burwell, who was part of the mock committee, wrote a column about the selection process in today's paper.

Vahe Gregorian, another P-D writer, was also on the committee. Gregorian has had a weekly MVC notebook throughout the season.

It's an interesting read as I saw this yesterday on Valleytalk. A writer from the Omaha paper (Tom Shantel) played the role of one of the two "head" guys of the mock committee. He will supposedly have an article about it on Sunday in the Omaha paper.

Do they think the MVC tournament is the first week of Feb?
