Considering past history on how BADLY the committee has done seeding teams, where do you think Butler will get seeded? Where SHOULD they be seeded? Considering their performance this year, I think they SHOULD get a 3 or 4 seed, but the committe will screw them over and give them a 5 or 6.

What are the chances they could get a higher seed than Duke, who has had a mediocre season (by Duke standards)? The chances SHOULD be good, but you know they aren't.

If you want to make this MVC related, where do you see the MVC teams getting put as well, as of now?

    I see Butler as a 4 seed.....definitely part of the top 16.

I also see Duke as a 4 seed currently, but they could easily wind up with a lower seed if they continue to lose games in conference.

I see SIU as a 5 or 6 seed, and both Creighton and MSU as somewhere between 9-11 seeds.

Siu will not get better then an 8 seed and Creighton 10 seed and Missouri State a 12 as of today; the valley tour. will determine who gets the bast seed by who wins the tour.

Speaking of the selection committee, here are some insights into the way things are, as columnists sat in on a "mock" selection process:

        Pat Forde:
Think you know brackets? ESPN.com's Pat Forde thought he did until the NCAA invited him to a mock selection process.

        Andy Katz:
Andy Katz and 19 other media members went through the NCAA's first mock bracket exercise Wednesday in Indy. Here's what he learned.

The ESPN version of the mock 64 is very weird.. They have Evansville in as a 13 seed!

UCLA, Wisky, Florida and UNC as #1 seeds..

They have 4 Valley teams in- SIU as a 5 seed, Missouri State at a #10 and Creighton as a #9, along with Evansville- which must be a glitch or mistake....
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

It's not. They did some sort of simulation/prediction and tried to throw curveballs at the "selection commitee." They had Evansville winning the MVC Tourney.

Palm's latest bracket just came out today...

              SIU #4 seed

Creighton and Mo St #10 seeds

They had a lot of upsets in conference tourney results to try and squeeze the number of at large bids down. Evansville won the MVC tourney, Butler did not win their tourney, Gonzaga did not win theirs, Winthrop did not win theirs. They were trying to make it hard to pick the at-large teams to make them see how hard the job of the committee is.

                  Again-- just as predicted:

Here is an interesting Rivals article that notes the dilemma the NCAA selection committee
might have. Do they put the weight on the RPI (the very system they devised to help guide At-Large selection) OR
do they look more at who you played and W's and L's?

As they did last year, this article cites Missouri State as a team on the fence, because even tho they have a great RPI (32), they are 9-5 in their own conference and have some bad losses.

Thankfully they also list Maryland as "Needing help soon".

But I again get the feeling that all this talk about teams "on the bubble" is beginning to sound very much like the selection committee just isn't going to consider the RPI as much as in years past.

CBSSportsline's Gary Parrish now even lists DUKE as on the bubble and says their RPI should not necessarily get them an NCAA bid just because they are DUKE. They need to also have a decent in conference (ACC) record.

Can you imagine...Duke being left out....
all of the east coast broadcast media would need to be put on suicide alert.

How did you arrive at this conclusion? You obviously have not read the predictions by the various "Bracketology" experts.

I think that Missouri State comment is a little out of line. How do they find a 9-5 record in the Valley as a borderline record? We're the number 5 conference for crying out loud! Even if we fall to seventh, Missouri St has done more than enough to be almost a lock at this point, including beating one of the top ranked teams in the country on the road!

The so-called experts still don't get it!

                        Duke

Duke could lose out the rest of the regular season and get in strictly because they're Duke and their coach is the great coach K

Well, all I can say is we better not see a 6-10 team out of the ACC in the tournament bracket on Selection Sunday! If the committee continues to tout how much the last 10 games matter, and that no team under .500 in their conference should make the tourney (short of the automatic bid), and then they turn around and pick a slumping Duke just because they're Duke, well then shame on the committee!

I'm not taking anything away from Butler, but they are pretty lucky that their conference is so weak. They have really taken advantage of some good early wins, all on a neutral floor. They really don't have a good true road win. IMO their situation would be much different if their conference was stronger. Thier best, true road win is at Purdue(rpi 37), who by the way lost at Indiana St. Here are their true road wins:
                            1. Purdue(rpi 37)
                            2. Wisconsin Milwaukee(rpi 242)
                            3. Loyola(rpi 122)
                            4. Detroit(rpi 189)
                            5. Youngstown ST(rpi 175)
                            6. Cleveland St (rpi 27

This means that the average rpi for a Butler road win is 173. The two games they have lost are to Indiana St.(it seems everyone has lost to a Valley team) and UIC. These guys have rpi's of 102 and 194 respectively, and have both lost to BU. Despite a record of 22-2 Butler's rpi is 20 spots lower than Southern Illinois'. The thing is, Wichita St was 11-2 when conference play started and ranked in the country with some pretty good wins at the time. Now I'm fairly confident the Shockers possibly could have won all their games against the weak horizon league as Butler has done. That being said, we are talking about WSU having to really hustle to make the NCAA, but talking about Butler being a top 4 seed. Now, I believe if a team wins, you have to reward them, and Butler has done plenty of winning, so they probably deserve a 4 seed, but I don't think they are really as good as the ranking they have or the seed they will be awarded. Now I just need Southern Illinois to prove it in the Bracket Buster.

I don"t pay much attention to bracketology as I do to previous seeds that some of the teams have rec"d ; not saying the valley should not get better seeds but look at last years and the fact Missouri St. was not in the tour.; the big schools get all the breaks and usually the best seeds.
