  • Egyptian Dogs and Little Egypt?

How many times did those two clowns(spoonhour and holtus) say that? I mean it was at least 10-15 times they mentioned either Little Egypt, Egyptian Dogs or both. Also, every time Spoonhour does a halftime interview with the coach of a team leaving the floor he damn near makes out with him, that's how close he gets to the coach's face. If you look closely the coach he does the interview with will actually look uncomfortable, and will back up, and will then begin the process of filling out a restraining order.

It actually was just Mitch Holthus, and I don't know why he did that. He seemed off his rocker yesterday. I usually enjoy his broadcasts very much, but yesterday was unbearable.

I feel the same. Usually I like listening to Holthus, but he was unbearable and just plain awkward last night.

That and we couldn't capitalize on any of the huge stops we were getting late in the game. Man, that was frustrating. That game just reinforced my hate for Southern. Go BU!

That is exactly how I came out of the SIU game feeling.

During the pregame interviews it was noted how Doug Elgin has done such a great job in helping and guiding the Valley to a preeminence and quality never seen since the 60's.
Question I have, with the Big Ten looking worse then they've looked in a long time, and only two really good team while 6-8 Big Ten teams wallow in mediocrity, losing to D-II teams and midmajors, and some of them running their RPI's up to 200!
(note no team in the Valey has an RPI over 137) --

....then why doesn't the Big Ten (or some other top conference) use their millions and swipe Elgin from the MVC?
Or is it bound to happen sooner or later?
Even the wealthier C-USA and the 7th ranked Big XII seem to have more struggling teams and dropping esteem than the Valley. So are we going to lose Doug Elgin the way we seem to always lost the best Valley head coaches to the Big Ten and Big XII?

You make a good point, but two things popped into my head, first, both conferences may be having their struggles, but year-to-year, they are two of the best conferences in the country. But more importantly, they have football. I don't know exact figures or anything, but I'd say it's safe to assume that football is the big money-maker for those two conferences, and they are definately two of the dominant, if not most dominant, in the country.

Remember the story on Big Ten commish Delany? He is the guy everyone is afraid of. There is no way that he can be replaced. he was called "the most feared man in college sports". I don't see elgin leaving and if he does hopefully someone that works underneath him has learned his leadership abilities and will not disrupt the dominance he has built for this conference.

Back to the original title of this thread, I noticed the same thing about Mitch too. However, it wasn't just in the BU-SIU game. He did the same thing when Southern Illinois played at Creighton. I've come to two conclusions why this may be happening:

                      1) He has some kind of mental block by which something awful will happen if he says "Salukis".

                      2) In college, he majored in broadcast journalism with a minor in Egyptology, and he's just showing off?

I didn't mind the references to Little Egypt, but it would have been a nice Illinois history lesson if he had explained why the deep southern part of the state is called that.
