Past injuries, that is. Yes, I know they're all healthy. But the injuries this year, specifically Ruffin and moreso JC, are starting to catch up with this team in terms of minutes logged, and the tired legs that are a result of that. JC's injury forced Ruffin, Will, and JJ to log major minutes in his absence, and their recent shooting performances is an indicator that they're tiring. Only Andrew Warren and Danny Adams seem to have any life in their legs right now, and I don't think it's a coincidence that they've both logged far less minutes than Will, Ruff, and JJ. Ruffin and JJ haven't played this poorly in 2 years. There's no one to blame, it just is what it is.
On top of that, JC just isn't himself yet, and I don't think he will be the rest of the year. For a shooter it's about having your legs in shape and getting in a rhythm. A month off due to injury will take both away, and that's what has happened to JC. I really feel for the kid, he was on his way to all-conference honors IMO. If he can somehow get back to close to what he was before the injury, it could be the boost BU needs these last 5 games and in St. Louis. But right now, it looks like he's struggling to find the flow of the game, and Jim seems to have little patience with him, making it even harder to get 'it' back.
Can these things be overcome? We'll see. I hope so, but I am skeptical. The schedule is fairly friendly to finish up, with 3 of 5 games at home, and 3 of 5 games against Thursday night teams. We could run the table and really make things interesting in St. Louis, or we could go 3-2 and just hope to get win #20 down there. BU will have week off to get rested up for St. Louis, and for a jumpshooting team, that's a good thing.
All in all, barring a total collapse, this season is still a big success in my book. This team has overachieved and given everything they possibly could have given, and I could not be prouder of what this undersized team picked as a bottom feeder has done. I am just afraid that they might be running out of gas. Hopefully I am wrong, and we can finish this season the way it deserves to be finished.
