  • MVC 6th Man Award?

Anyone have an idea who should win this award this year?

The Valley awards a 6th Man of the Year Aaward and also an All-Bench team

Last year's 6th Man of the Year was Kellen Easley and the All Bench Team was:

2006 MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE ALL-BENCH TEAM
Wesley Clemmons, Southern Illinois, Fr., Gd.
*Kellen Easley, Missouri State, Sr., G/F
    Will Franklin, Bradley, Jr., Gd.
Dale Lamberth, Missouri State, So., Fwd.
Ryan Martin, Wichita State, Jr., Gd.

I personally think Danny Adam has to be considered.
He has single handedly made the difference in a couple key wins.

I think DA should garner some interest as a member of the all bench team.. but I don't know if he's worthy of a 6th man award.

I know scoring isn't everything, but here are some statistical facts:

Bradley has two non-starters who score 6ppg game or more,
Matt Salley (who does start some games) at 8.3ppg, and DA at 6.6ppg.

Creighton has NO player except their 5 starters that averages any better than 5.5 ppg.

Drake has Jonathan Cox and Josh Young scoring at 6 and 10 ppg, but lately Josh Young has been starting.

      Evansville's Shy Ely gets 6.6ppg

ISU has had so many different starting lineups that it's practically impossible to determine who is are their starters and who is their bench. Only Boo Richardson has started every game but their obvious candidates for the bench team,
Fortes and Vandello, have done little or nothing all year.

Indiana State has a couple freshmen who would have been All Bench for sure, but they were converted to starters 1/2 way through the season and they are not bench players any more.
It's hard to fine anyone among their bench players that would be an ALL Bench candidate.

Missouri State Has used Deven Mitchell all year as the 1st guy off the bench and he's scoring 10ppg, and Dale Lamberth also has done well off the bench all season (8.4ppg)

UNI is the only MVC team that has started the same five guys in every game this season. Beyond those starting five, nobody else stands out, with Adam Viet scoring 5.9ppg, largely in their blowouts. In every close game he is non-existent. A full 1/8 of all Viet's points on the season were scored in a single game against hapless D-III Wartburg.

SIU gets absolutely NOTHING from their bench. Their best bench player barely scores 3ppg.

Wichita has Karon Bradley and Phillip Thomasson off the bench
(although K. Bradley has started 10 games.) Those two guys score 6-7 points.

So in overview....this season has a significant dearth of bench players. Danny Adams stands out really just about as much as anyone, but the two Missouri State kids, Mitchell & Lambert are deserving.

If I had to pick five guys for the All Bench team, I'd go with
Danny Adams, Dale Lamberth, Deven Mitchell, Matt Salley, and Phillip Thomasson.

Salley has had some terrific games off the bench, but he's been starting of late and might not get considered.

at Iowa State, he came off the bench to go 7-10, 17 pts. and 10 rebs.
Against Loyola Matt came off the bench to go 8-13, 18 points, 5 rebounds, no turnovers.
Against Wright State he came off the bench to go 5-6, 12 points, 7 rebounds.
