  • Will Egolf update

Will Egolf had 26 points 16 rebounds and 3 blocks as Juneau Douglas went to 11-3 with a 56-39 win over West Valley.

Lennox Forrester was at the game in Fairbanks, one of the hardest places in the US to get to. Here is a clip from the article. --
???‚¬?“He had a well-balanced basketball game,???‚¬?? said Bradley assistant coach Lennox Forrester, who was in town for the game. ???‚¬?“He did a great job of scoring in different ways and getting his teammates involved. His ability to play inside and outside will make him a great fit in our system.???‚¬??

Juneau Douglas plays again tonight at North Pole High School, and again Saturday at Lathrop High School, both in the Fairbanks area.

Hopefully he can come in and help us with his rebounding next season; next season may be the best class B.U. has had in quite some time as we have good size in the front court as well as the back and it appears plenty of good scorers.

So I wasn't really too sure about Egolf, but he is looking better and better as time passes. It seems like any tiem now where sometimes I wonder about a JL decision, I'm wrong, which makes me very happy.

amckillip, I have spoken to a couple people who saw Will play and who saw him work out up at Bradley during his visit last fall.
They say he has temendous abilities, coordination, and shooting.
Even one of the present BU starters told me he was absolutely awed by the kid's abilities, and he will only get bigger and better.

I think Will Egolf, Sam Maniscalco, Anthony Thompson, Dwight Buycks, Jeremy Fears, and DeAaron Williams will give BU an awesome recruiting class, almost all of whom are 3-STAR recruits with talent to keep BU at the top of the Valley.
(all six of those players have been listed as 3-STAR, except Egolf who is 2-STAR but could well be the most talented but just not seen much since he's in Alaska.)
In any class, only the top 25 kids generally get 5-STAR designation, then the next 75 get 4-STAR, meaning a 3-STAR would likely be one of the #100-200 ranked kids nationally.

I can't recall a Valley school bringing in a class of more than two 3-STAR recruits at one time, let alone five of them.

It's encouraging to read all the updates about the players Bradley have gotten to commit to the school. My question is, will there be enough balls in the rack to keep everyone happy? It seems like the guys who will don the red & white next year are the "top dogs" on their high school teams this year. How will they cope with going from that status to being "an important cog in the team concept"? I also hope these guys turn out to be good students so we don't have to hear or read about "academic casualties" heading into January, 2008!

That happens at all Division I level schools, and has always been the case at Bradley as well. A number of their players had been the main guy on their high school teams. Part of the skills of coaches is to get them to play team ball.
JJ Tauai scored 30+ points a game and was the small school Player of the Year in Missouri in 2003.
Ray Brown was a runner-up for Mr. Basketball in Minnesota and played on the top team in their division.
Daniel Ruffin was All State and a back-to-back state champion.
Even Matt Salley was a very highly recruited kid in NC, before he failed to qualify for Div I.

What I like is that all the Bradley recruits are winners, and come from highly successful programs. It seems they all know how to score and defend. They know how to win and want to win. Every one of them has realistic aspirations of championships this season at their schools. I think they will do whatever is needed to win once they get to Bradley.

I don"t think you need to worry about having too many scorers as the offense we run gives everyone a chance and our staff does a good job with their team first concept; the coaches seem to know which players are a good fit as far as the academic issues go so I do not worry about a player staying elgible like I did back when S. Albeck was here.

I find it funny that someone started a NEW thread this morning on another local message board about Will Egolf and his stellar performance, and a couple of followup posters congratulated him for the "nice find".

Ha, ha, Da Coach had this whole story and more up on Bradleyfans more than 24 hours earlier...
I guess anyone who wants to be credited for a nice find just needs to be watching this board!

So, nicer find, Da Coach...keep it up....the stuff on Bradleyfans astounds me!

Yes. Keep those updates coming. I hope you guys don't think we aren't interested and stop posting this stuff. It's great to be able to find this information here. Us Bradley junkies have always wanted to know stuff like this, but had nowhere to find it! Thanks to BradleyFans!
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

This post should be framed and given to all coaches on how to build a successful basketball program. But, as we have also observed, you need a coach with the charisma and drive to march on in the face of adversity and criticism to follow these easy-to-say, hard-to-do steps for success. Kids at this age need a strong example of what it takes to be successful and the reappearance of JL at Bradley was a Godsend for this program.
