  • What ever happened to Jared Benson and BU?

Does anyone know the status of Jared Benson?

  • #2
He is not listed on the Scout database, but on Rivals he is listed as uncommitted. Bradley and UW-Green Bay are listed as recruiting. I can't find anything new on him.

    Old thread from recruiting board--

I heard he was thinking of a school out west - something DG recommended
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I disagree, Jared Benson is still in High school and is still shown as having BU as a possibility by one of the recruiting services.

Though Bradley and UW-Green Bay are listed as showing interest, he does not appear to have any solid Division I offers.

From reports I could find on him, he is having a good senior season at Nadeau High School, in Carney, Michigan, so as a 6'10" kid, he will probably get offers. But Bradley does not have any available scholarships, so I doubt they are still interested.

6'11"-235lbs. and no solid D1 offers

He must not be very impressive to scouts, you would think he would have some offers from somebody this late in his high school career other than BU, as rivals lists only BU as his college choices.

              Hmmm, this is strange.

Just as strange possibly that Patrick O'Bryant, Jeremy Crouch, Will Franklin, Daniel Ruffin, JJ Tauai, Tony Bennett, Lawrence Wright, Zach Andrews, and a few others were in their final year in either high school or juco and still didn't have any solid D-I offers, but still turned out to be fine D-I players.

                  He looks Heemskerk-esque.

I agree, especially with the part about POB, the others I can see maybe flying under the radar through high school, but this guy is ranked as the 3rd best center in Michigan by scouting services, so his name is out there, which means coaches must have seen him play, but not gone any further with recruiting him. I'm not saying he's not a good player, I don't know if he is or not, but 6'11" - 235lb players are somewhat rare, and I assume people have looked at him, I'm just wondering why the offers have not come. I was actually going to mention how this was similar to POB's situation in my original post, and I hope if Bradley does get this guy he develops just as Patrick did.

Any chance he is a non-qualifier?

Not having seen the kid, I really can't say, but even somewhat "projects" if they are 7' get attention.
But if JL thinks he can be another POB, I'd give it a try.
Thing is, we don't presently have an open scholarship for fall of 2007, so the kid would have to still be available if and when one opens up.
Each of the past several years, one or more scholarships have unexpectedly opened up. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think these are the ones that opened up unexpectedly after the early signing period of the previous year had passed:

pre-2006-2007: Patrick O'Bryant and Xavier Crawford's scholarships became available.
pre-2005-2006: Mike Rembert and Lance Stemler's scholarships unexpectedly became available.
pre-2004-2005: Joey Paul's and Mike Suggs' scholarships became available.
pre-2003-2004: Stevan Marcetic's and Danny Granger's scholarship opened up.
pre-2002-2003: Antoine Tisby and Joah Tucker's scholarships opened up.

Where did Joey Paul end up, if anyone knows. It looks like there was some mention of a Joey Paul playing at the University of Missouri at Saint Louis. Just Curious.

Joey Paul and Chris Mroz transferred to University of Missouri St. Louis and were starters their last 2 years. I believe they both graduated last year and have finished their college eligibility.

I just ran across this on Jared Benson...since that was the original question in this thread.

                              Looks like Jared Benson

ended up going to Northern Michigan University, a D-II school.
