Similar to Bradley, Iona is coached by one of their former greats. Jeff Ruland played 8 seasons in the NBA.
When he was hired as head coach in 1998, he announced he was not interested in using Iona as a stepping stone and was there to stay.
Ruland has had success at Iona. In his second season, 1999-2000, he won the MAAC and got an NCAA bid. His team repeated their MAAC title and NCAA bid in 2001. And in 2005-2006 they won the MAAC conference and played in the NCAA again. But this year they have fallen on hard times.
