  • The Drake-UNI game on Saturday is for the Championship

KFXA-TV/Big Four Classic Television Network which promotes and sponsors all the D-I teams in Iowa playing each other in round robin fashion,
have proclaimed that the winner of the game Saturday in which visiting UNI plays at Drake,
    as the
Winner of the Big Four Championship.
and the TROPHY will be presented.
Both Drake and UNI have gone 2-0 against Iowa and Iowa State.

(ps- even tho Drake and UNI play each other at least twice this year, only this game is considered the Championship game)

I'd love to see an All-Illinois Trophy given!

DRAKE wins the D-I Champioship of the State of Iowa!
The former Governor of the State of Iowa, Bob Ray awards Drake with the Championship trophy.
Drake is 3-8 in Valley play.

Iowa has four colleges, only two of which are in the same conference, Illinois has 2 big ten teams, 3 Mo Valley Teams, Depaul, NIU, WIU, EIU, SIU-E (Aren't they D-1 now?), UIC, Loyola, just too many D-1 Teams to do a true State Trophy.

I think SIU-E is trying to become D1.

I think an All-IL tournament would be a lot of fun... maybe not do it every year, but it would force U of I to have to play the likes of us and SIU.

                Agreed.

I think the tourney Bradley and Illinois were in this year could become such a thing. There are 12 teams in Illinois. Rotate participants and rotate top names. Forget about Rutgers... get Depaul. Forget about Miami (Ohio)... get Loyola. (forget about Fl A&M and Savannah St - get Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois) Etc.

You could do it with all 12... Seed by previous year final RPI and have the first four seeds getting a 1st round bye. That would mean for a team seeded 5-12, you would have to win four games to win the tournament, with three games to win as a 1-4 seed. That doesn't seem like too many games for a tournament does it?

If seeded by RPI now you'd get:
                  1 - SIU
                  2 - Bradley
                  3 - Illinois
                  4 - DePaul
                  5 - Loyola
                  6 - Illinois St
                  7 - Northwestern
                  8 - Chicago St.
                  9 - Illinois-Chicago
                  10 - Northern Illinois
                  11 - Eastern Illinois
                  12 - Western Illinois
