I have some contacts in the medical field, and one of the areas that tends to humble the most knowledgable Dr. is the fact that many of these young athletes with sudden cardiac issues, have tested and DO test out as completely normal.
Some of these events are completely unpredictable, and even could occur in those who are not athletes so they aren't always triggered by the sport they play and they may be virtually unfindable.
So in the end, there may be no answer fo rthe occasional occurrence of a kid with sudden cardiac death.
      It is very sad.
Many Peorians recall the case of Woodruff's Nick Knapp.
Had one of the basketball assistants not been present and been trained as a paramedic, he likely would have died, but effective CPR saved Nick's life.

Wasn't that Byron Yan who saved Nick? I remember that there was a scramble at the local HS level to have the coaches certified in CPR & then there was a movement to have defribulators (sp?) available in all the gyms (not sure if that ever actually happened).

You have a fine memory, the assistant at Woodruff who helped save Knapp'slife was Byron Yang.
