  • A Review of Those Preseason Reviews from last fall

Just for your entertainment, and not to provoke any argument, I thought I would go back and see what each of those Preview Issues said about Bradley last fall.

    Here goes:

    Lindy's
Picked BU 8th in the MVC
"Loss of top four scorers, including 7-footer Patrick O'Bryant, depletes firepower. The uncertain look up front paints the Braves as a team headed for a big fall"

Not one single BU player was selected on the 1st, 2nd, nor 3rd Team All Conference ((Greg Dilligrad, Al Stewart, Sean Ogirri, and Jason Holzinger all were).

AND-- believe it or not, they selected Xavier Crawford as "Newcomer who will have the most impact"!!

They also selected some other really bad picks:
"Best jump shooter among newcomers" - Kerwin Dunham...presently redshirting at UNI
"Best rebounder among the newcomers" - Arbry Butler who is presently redshirting at Wichita State.
"Most likely newcomer to see the NBA" - Ty Morrison who has quit at Creighton after playing poorly in an illness plagued season.
"#1 recruiting coup" - again, Morrison.

    Sporting News College Basketball Report
..."a big fall" ..."major regrouping"...massive hole in the middle"
    They pick Bradley 8th
They picked no BU player on either 1st or 2nd team All Conference, but did pick Jordan Eglseder, Gal Mekel, Josh Bone, Osiris Eldridge, and Ty Morrison as top newcomers (only Eldridge is doing well enough for consideration presently).

    Athlon Sports:
Selected Bradley 9th (Indiana State was 10th)
"rebuilding mode"...."the Braves will take their lumps"...
    ___________________________________________

    Street and Smith's
They select BU 9th ahead of only the Sycamores.
    "don't expect a magical rerun..."...
They select best PG-Dotzler, Top incoming freshman Eglseder, and they rank BU's recruits as 8th best in the Valley and mention only Matt Salley as if Andrew Warren didn't exist.

    CBSSportsline College Basketball Preview Issue
These guys didn't pick their order of finish, but they are the only ones who predicted some kind of success for BU in 2006-2007.
"experience and momentum from the deep run in the NCAA...should carry over and help this squad keep playing in March."
They gave the nod to Daniel Ruffin on the 2nd team All Conference, but also selected Jason Holzinger, and chose Eglseder as NOY.

I have a few others, but that's all I have time for now..............let me know what you think??

I think most of the posters on this board could write a preview of the MVC and be at least, if not more, accurate than these so called experts. I doubt that most of these writers follow the MVC as close as MVC fans.

I guess I'd be more interesting in reading the preseason opinions on the 10 beat reporters around the league. I've never taken any of the national magazines seriously unless they outsourced their picks to one of the league's local writers.

The standing look about the way I thought they would except for Wichita. I didn't think the top team would have 3 losses at the turn. I also thought that Drake would be a little better.

In all likelihood, Chuck, you are right. But it should not be that way.
These are experts, who write about sports for a living, and it
wouldn't be too much to expect to ask them to do some homework,
especially on the top 10 conferences or so.
As many of those rags that named players like Xavier Crawford
(who left for Yuba in August), who never even enrolled at BU,
and Kerwin Dunham who many knew was redshirting, clearly
didn't even check the easy sources.
But that's probably how they keep costs down.

I have one question about Kirk Wessler.
Why does he wear red to the Bradley games when they are not doing a red-out,
then he wears black when they do the red-out?

Bingo-- last night, biggest game of the year, I am sure he knew it was a red-out...Kirk Wessler was wearing gray, as was Dave Reynolds.

They were there in an official capacity and not as "fans". I don't make much of this.

At least they weren't wearing Iowa sweatshirts!

I know that I have been accused of being a Wessler apologist, but I can't help but think he is laughing again as he reads this concern of the color of the clothes he wears. As Da Coach points out, I think if one pays attention to the color when he is working and when he is supporting it will be obvious.

But I HAVE seen KW wearing full Bradley red regalia at other games, but he chose not to at the red-out game?
Go figure. He has three generations of Bradley blood in him and is now suddenly drinking Koolaid.

BTW--- I have a great caption for this photo

Levi Dyer (the tall dude on the left): whaa da heyyy....how'd he get right past all of us??
Anthony Slack (behind Ruff):.....Hey...he ain't my man, I ain't takin' the rap for this one...
Porter Moser (out of view)...He is the best point guard in the Valley, and we don't have anyone who's even on the same planet with him. Can't imagine there are still people who think he's not the best PG in the league?
