  • Wednesday Morning's RPI Report

Even with three previous BU opponents winning Tuesday night (Illinois, SIU, and Tennessee Tech) it doesn't affect BU's RPI much and BU is at 34 or 35, depending on which RPI service you check, third in the Valley.

Still, with the precedent being set last year that even a team with an RPI of 21 being left out of the NCAA, BU MUST keep winning.
    Get well quick, JC!!

34 will get us an NIT bid, period. Which, with the way I thought the season was going to go would be great. From a selfish point of view, the NIT would probably provide us with a couple more home games to watch. That would be a nice consolation prize if we do not get into the NCAA. However, my expectations have been raised and that is a credit to Jim and the kids.

The NIT is no sure thing anymore. The reduced the field back down to 32 from 40. Another thing to remember is that any regular season conference champion that does not win its league's automatic berth or earn an NCAA spot automatically earns an NIT bid.

So it will be imperative for BU to still finish strong. In years passed, the team could have finished a few games over .500 and make it. That's not necessarily the case anymore.

Last year, that accounted for 13 spots in the field.

I will buy 6pk wings at Buffalo Wild Wings for anyone/everyone who shows if BU has an RPI in the 30's and does NOT get an invite to the NCAA AND NIT.

        That's a BOOK IT!!!

Mac, you might want to re-write what you stated. I think you lost already as I do not think BU will get an invite to the NCAA and NIT!

RPIs worry me. It is not known which the NCAA uses and to what degree. Last year Ken Pom had Mo St with a RPI of 21. However, Sagarin had Mo St at 28 which is quite a difference and as we all know, the Bears were left out in the cold to hibernate. Currently Pom has BU at 36, but Sagarin has the Braves at 58. Draw your own conclusions...

They will at least make the NIT with an RPI in the 30's. My point is they have to finish there. 10 games is a lot of basketball and with 7 of them against RPI 100 teams, it won't be easy.

If they drop 15-20 points in the RPI, an NIT bid is no sure thing.

Yea... thanks... what I meant is ...

If BU has an RPI in the 30's, we will be in the Post-season and that is a BOOK IT!!! And if not, I will buy 6pk wings at Buffalo Wild Wings for anyone/everyone who shows.

OK - fine. An RPI of 50-55 is no sure thing.

Currently in JPalm's Nitty Gritty/Gory Details section, teams in the top 55 not in the NCAA is a total of 12. Add to that the example of 13 Conference Winners that didn't go to the NCAA, that makes 25. So there 8 more BCS teams over 55 in the RPI to bump Bradley out with an RPI in the 50-55 range for you to be right.

Since you have edited your post... I think this is what you were referring to in the beginning.

                        And I checked it.

ONLY 7 Conferences last year produced guaranteed NIT teams.

                        Also...

81 in the RPI was the lowest to get snubbed. So moving up 15 spots from there (7 for the gauranteed conf winners and 8 for the reduction in teams in the field)... that makes 66 the magic number.

I believe top 60 RPI is a LOCK for the NIT.

IF BU is at 61 RPI and IUPUI is 60....60 would NOT be a lock.

C'mon DRU... keep up with me here.

IUPUI is currently 264 in the RPI. The top RPI team in the Mid-Con right now is 98 Oakland who is tied for 1st in the league at 5-0 with 108 RPI Oral Roberts.

Teams are gonna finish in the Top 60 in the RPI for a reason. And I say, any of those Top 60 teams with a winning record are gonna be in the NIT.

Why use the RPI at all if you cannot take the top 64 and use that to determine seeding?
Nowhere in the Constitution is healthcare a right. Either is employment insurance, food stamps, and welfare.

I ask what makes the liberal pansies think those are rights?

                              Stupid liberals.
