  • BU Basketball is GREAT business for WMBD, too

According to the latest Arbitron ratings just released, the ratings for WMBD-AM radio have shot through the roof!

The Fall '06 (thru December '06) ratings for WMBD were 8.6, which puts WMBD in 2nd place area-wide, right behind their sister staion WSWT-FM (Lite Rock) which came in at 9.7.
The Spring '06 rating was 5.8, and the nearly 3 full point jump in ratings was, in part, attributed to Bradley basketball, and all the talk shows on WMBD that discuss BU basketball.

The previous leader from Spring, WZPW-FM fell way off from 9.2 to 6.4, and WFYR-FM (Country) also fell from 8.9 to 7.8.

Even more evidence, if you need it, that the excitement is back at all time levels for Bradley basketball!

Some fans would like to hear the midnight rebroadcast brought back plus maybe at least one night of talk about sports which would boost the ratings even more.

Maybe somebody should inform a local TV station that carrying BU basketball is a good thing!

I'd be satisfied with more away games.

With the Valley getting as much Pub as it is....and the Braves playing right with the Top team.......wouldn't you think that all away games would be on the Air? Only show the sold out home games or I can see the isu game.......but all-road games should be on!

The talk about sports program was CRAP.

If you want to listen to a couple guys with their BCS/B10/Illini bias talk about sports, I am sure you could find a show on 670 or something that will fill your void.

That show died a quiet death because nobody cared to listen to anti-Bradley comments anymore.

I am sorry - Dave Reynolds couldn't do it alone. Quite frankly, I think he is too nice of a guy to want to go to the throat of some of his peers/coworkers and show to a radio audience how wrong (and stupid) they are.

You shoudl also notice that Arbitron is verl close to arbitrary.. which ratings often are...

When I was in radio, sometimes best ratings books were aberrations, not necessarily result of great programming.. Depends who gets book and who fills it out!
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I agree Big Mike. All home games should have to be sold out to be televised and all road games should be. I remember the Talk About Sports talk show on WMBD radio every night. It was definitely pro Bradley, which a Peoria talk show should be. Wish it was back on. After an exciting game I used to listen to the rebroadcast at midnight.

I must be thinking of a different show then.

I remember the 1/week show on like Thursdays... and it must have been the show with the sportswriters... not Talk About Sports.

                  Sorry.

I agree and I would love it if all the road games were televised locally. However, there are some people who are not able to make it to games and they should have the opportunity to see the game also. I know we all want Carver Arena packed for every game, and I think we might be headed in that direction, but don't penalize the elderly, the less fortunate, the sick, etc..who love to watch the Braves as much as we do.

I hope we get to the point where we HAVE to televise home games because you can't beg, barrow, or steal a ticket to see the Braves.

Ideally I think all Braves games should be televised locally, unless they're televised nationally. Don't want a local blackout or anything like that, but I DO want all road games televised before we get all home games.

                        Sorry.

Sports Writers was crap too! I remember once they were actually at THe Bradlely Itoo Hall festivities doing a live broadcast.During the 1 hour broadcast Wessler, Theobold, and Liesse talked about BASEBALL for 55 minutes!
They discouraged basketball calls, even during Basketball season! They would say, only 3 calls about Bradley tonight. What arrogance, and of course no one would call.
They never realized in Peoria, winter is all about Bradley Basketball
                        Good riddance!

I just ran across this old thread that kinda proves, at least just a few short years ago, that Bradley basketball was a hot commodity...
so... either it still is and we have trouble selling it to TV, or it ISN'T which is even a greater concern...

Does anyone have access to the full current Arbitron ratings or TV ratings or anything that disputes this?

I found an online mention that as of quite recently, WMBD ratings were still extremely strong - in fact stronger than any time since 2011

so the argument that people have so many other options is really no different of a situation than back in 2007 - they had tons of options then including hundreds of stations, cable options, and other things and still 18-20 games were on TV....
and I know people who used to tune in JUST to hear the color analyst - whether it was DV, Bish, or CK
