  • PJ Star Sports Coverage

IMO, the PJStar Sports department has really gone into the tank. The sports page is now so small, it can hardly be found in the daily newspaper. They seem to focus on high school sports especially from smaller schools in Central Illinois.
Their Bradley coverage is virtually non-existant. They have dropped the Hoops Supplement. Something is going on at the PJS and it looks like it is not very good for Bradley. The new Sports Editor and Gatehouse are making some really bad changes IMO.

wiz- we've seen this coming for several years....and if anyone doesn't want to hear what I have to say then stop reading now and click your "Page Back" feature...

the coverage since the end of the Molinari era has been largely negative...
Theobald hated Coach Mo and made that apparent, then the whole staff there had a vendetta against Bradley for not hiring their guy in 2001..and they made that abundantly clear...
They attacked from every angle - they attacked Jim Les personally, called him a liar if he dared change his starting lineup at the last minute, they called the program dishonest with their "prefer to take the expedient route rather than the principled one", they dishonestly pushed the narrative that Bradley had tampered with Marcellus Sommerville to get him to leave Iowa - even misquoting Cellus' father, they blew the entire Tyrone Cole-Scott thing into a federal case when it was Cole-Scott's father who was lying, they attacked virtually every aspect of play - never cutting any slack if Bradley had injuries - and yet even when Geno was at full strength and couldn't must 38 points in some games, they still drooled with praise about how much better we were (light years better).
Then of course the attack by calling Bradley a renegade program - when all Jim Les ever had were a couple of truly minor issues - then later when Geno had an endless string of off-the-court issues, suspensions, dismissals & failures, drug arrests, girlfriend beatings and Big Al's incidents - Wessler never bothered to even mention some of it...
Since then - nothing but endless revisions of facts & history to try to shift all the blame for the attendance being 2500 and the 25-loss seasons onto Jim Les over & over when everyone with an ounce of sense knows the blame is 100% on Glasser, Cross, Geno and the handfull of clueless dopes (including those in media) who backed & supported them and gave them the opportunity to ruin our once great program.

I have been calling for some kind of decent coverage, showing examples of how other MVC schools get great, fair-minded coverage from their press - but it's a lost cause.

The current Sports Editor is Wes Huett. I have never seen him at a single Bradley event of any kind - and I have just utilized the PJStar search feature to find all his contributions and cannot find a much that even references Bradley basketball - altho he did write a column about Barry Hinson and mentioned the spaghetti supper. So I guess we know what we're going to get - but he does seem to like covering pro poker (is that a sport? - but seems half his columns in the past 2 years are poker-related) and covering Colton Underood when he's dating celebrities,
BTW - not that it necessarily matters - but Wes Huett is an ISU Grad.
