  • College basketball just took a huge hit

    NBA just announced...
that players who are not eligible for the draft and who would otherwise have to go to college for at least one year...
those players can play in the G-League and earn $125,000 for the year that they wait until Draft eligible

It is quite likely that all the most talented high school & prep school grads would consider taking this route and not go to college.
Nothing would stop the top players from also swinging endorsement deals and other professional opportunities, apparel deals, autographs, promotional appearances, etc....
The G League will offer $125,000 Select Contracts to elite prospects who aren't yet eligible for the NBA but do not want to go the one-and-done route in college.

This move by the NBA hurts Lavar Ball the most. His JBA (Junior Basketball League) was not much of a success anyway and may have died on it's own, but now any player who might have considered the JBA will prefer the G-League because of the higher pay and the fact NBA scouts are present at every game.

I am sure LaVar Ball is worried all the way to the bank...
it is estimated he earned at least $4 million his first year as "CEO" of Big Baller Brands
..and altho no immediate threat to Nike, the BBB is doing about what "And1" and other highly successful brands did in their first year or two...(And1 sold after 12 years for a $55 million)
If the Lakers with LeBron & Lonzo become "a thing" it'll be worth even more...
