  • NCAA ditches the RPI and adopts a new evaluation tool

The NCAA has officially adopted their new NCAA Evaluation Tool, which will be known as the "NET". It includes aspects that have essentially been stolen from several other advanced metrics systems. It is a bit simplistic compared to some of the other ranking systems, but the NCAA will now use this and will no longer use the RPI for men's basketball NCAA Tournament selections and seeding. -
The NCAA has developed the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) a ranking system that will replace the RPI as the primary sorting tool used to evaluate teams.

The RPI will still be used for other sports including women's Division I basketball.
This change appears to benefit the top teams from the Power 6 conferences, since mid-majors aren't able to schedule many games against the top quadrant opponents.

our staff knew this tool was coming and discussed it at the Voice of the Braves show in May - and stated that the full emphasis on scheduling was to try & get teams that would give us Quadrant 1 & Quadrant 2 games...

but unfortunately, those teams are not exactly anxious to schedule better midmajors unless they are sure they are getting a Quadrant 1 game from playing us...
People don't understand, but this is why we can't get the games Loyola or ISU get. If we win and become a top 50 team then we would get better opponents down the road. This is still an unfortunate offshoot of having to rebuild from scratch thanks to those horrible years.

One thing for sure, tho.... Just as soon as someone at NCAA notices any mid-major that benefits from this new NET metric, they will discard it and use something else - it's the way they have functioned for 30-40 years.
The long road of different metrics include (but not limited to...):
W-L > 20-wins > win pct > tourney performance > RPI > the enhanced RPI > the RPI with a built-in boost for road wins > the "eye test" > the "smell test" > the Power Ranking > Pomeroy Ranking > "secret formula" only the Committe knows > Quadrant system >>>>
    ...and now the NET!

I don't see how they think this is fair when they know the Schools from the Corrupt conferences do not schedule the other schools. They have been hearing that for a couple years now.

they might as well just replace "Quadrant 1 game" with "any game against a Power 6 opponent"...
we all know what their motive is for this...
