      SIU non-conference schedule:

The official 2024-25 Men's Basketball schedule for the Southern Illinois University Salukis
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Salukis are bragging about their schedule being their toughest in years...
...their schedule has a lot of mid-majors that were pretty good last year..
the only Power-6 opponent they have will clobber them (Kentucky) but it will add to their SOS
Too bad they drew Colorado State in the MVC/MWC Challenge,

On closer look, maybe it is not too bad.
SIU has 2 games (a home-and-home) against Buffalo, which won 27 games and finished last season with a #26 RPI, the Mid-America Conference Champ, and NCAA bid, and a 21 point clobbering of #4 seeded Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. They will be very tough again this year. So along with Kentucky, that is 3 games for certain against Top 26 RPI teams.

Plus, if they can beat UMass in the first round of the Las Vegas Invitational, which they should, they will likely play Nevada in the championship. Nevada finished last year with 29 wins and was #13 in RPI, and they return everyone of significance, and are a consensus Top 10 preseason pick. They advanced to the Sweet 16 last year, and recall that they lost a 1-point game to Loyola. Some people are even suggesting Nevada could challenge for the NCAA title in 2019.

That is a good likelihood of 4 games against Top 25 or 30 teams. They also play Murray State at home. Murray State is no slouch either. They won 26 games last year, were the OVC Champ, and played in the NCAA Tournament. They finished the season ranked #51 in RPI. And SIU's home schedule also includes games against St. Louis and Winthrop, which are decent opponents from good conferences.

By comparison, Bradley is not scheduled to play a single team that finished with an RPI in the Top 100, and the best home opponent is Jacksonville State (RPI 135). I think I'd take SIU's schedule.

I agree that SIU's schedule has significantly more opportunities for high value wins than the disgrace of a schedule that Bradley put together if you ask me.
Cheering with pep and vim for the white and purple!

Loyola non-conference schedule is really nothing to write home about. Only challenges are Nevada and Maryland.

it is pretty weak but I know how hard it was for Loyola to get anyone to pick up the phone...nobody in the Top 100 wants to play them
The only way they got Nevada & Maryland was the MVC/MWC pairings & a buy-game out east...with a sub-.500 Big Ten team that needs to strengthen their schedule badly enough to take a risk..(149 last year)

                  Drake finalizes their non-conference scheudle

two of their regular season games are
Buena Vista - a really obscure DIII from Storm Lake IA
McKendree - just recently reclassified out of NAIA to DII
but they do play Iowa State, Colorado, New Mexico State and the possibility of Washington State

                    Commentary on Loyola's schedule...
"Loyola ... has just ONE team that made the 2018 NCAA Tournament"

then in the conference part of their schedule, they won't have ANY while the rest of the MVC teams all will have at least two..

seems some college basketball "experts" have just discovered what we've known for years

                          UIC released their non-conference schedule...
they host Bradley, Loyola & Illinois State....

With the success Loyola** has had moving to the MVC, does anyone think UIC is positioning themselves to be the next INVITEE to the Valley?

**(Loyola's home attendance was only about 1700 in 2014-15 and they anticipate well over 3,000 this season, plus the NCAA Tourney run was worth around $10 million to the MVC)

now look who is complaining about scheduling
Tad Boyle already has expressed his frustration at putting together the 2018-19 Colorado men’s basketball schedule. It turns out the ultimately unsuccessful quest to bring a big-name opponent…

Someone had better put this article in front of Coach Wardle. BU has a number of 2-for-1's ending this year so there's always the possibility that he can schedule a 2-for-1 or home-and-home with Colorado. According to the article, Colorado will have a lot of open dates in 19-20, too.
