  • Illinois lands top juco point guard in country

Bad news for Da'Monte Williams and any other point guards that are left at Illinois (Mark Smith and Te'jon Lucas already left), and for incoming PG Ayo Dosunmu, who can't be too happy about this. The top ranked juco point guard in the country just committed to Illinois.
Andres Feliz- a 6'2" point guard at Northwest Florida State College averaged 20.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 6.1 assists per game, and shot 61.1% overall, and 42% from three this past season as a sophomore for Northwest Florida State which finished the season 31-3, and advanced to the final 8 of the NJCAA National Tournament.

I challenge anyone to look back at the various lists of Top 50 or Top 100 juco rankings from any years 2011-2017...
you will see that 80% of even the TOP juco kids were of little help at the next level...surprisingly FEW went on to good DI career....
There were some, but not many .....so you have to choose carefully.

Some players help a lot like Cleanthony Early, but he was a rarity....
Others become key players but not dominant (Tyshon Pickett, Akoon-Purcell).
Some are starters & help but not enough to keep the team out of Thursday night or prevent the coach from the Hot Seat or getting fired (Thik Bol, Alize Johnson).
Some are of moderate benefit and do help the team (Zach Andrews, Daishon Knight) but the majority like what Bradley has had the past 6-8 years (Jermaine Morgan, Tramique Sutherland, Chris Blake, Kendahl Amerson, Jojo McGlaston, Lundy) have been of minimum help.
BUT - it is pretty hard to find many who are truly impact players anywhere at the DI level...and I cannot even recall the last time a juco kid helped the illini

Well that's why I think it's a good idea to have at least a couple, you never know how any player will work out. Dosunmu looked pretty good in Peoria but with injuries, player issues, etc having 2-3 PG's isn't the worse thing in the world IMO

agree with the point guard issue - if you are not deep at that position, all it takes is an injury & some foul trouble and you get stuck playing with no point guard
...that very factor played a big part in costing Porter Moser at ISU
