No surprise to me ,E.J. Liddell is named Mr. Basketball in Illinois for the 2018 season. That is a great pick even though some people thought Ayo Dosunmu from Morgan Park would get the award. I was able to see both kids from very good seats for two games last weekend and IMO it went to the deserving player. Now I know you can't judge kids by the results of two games and I know Illinois has a good one in Ayo but the ceiling for E.J. is very high. He is a big big timer. I might also add a very well spoken ,very nice young man. I know the U of I coach is hot after E.J. but my guess is he goes to Missouri along with Mark Smith. Those just my predictions.

yeah...Illinois is hot after him for sure....odd thing to me is that I didn't think Liddell worked very hard on either side of the court. He didn't move much offensively and I didn't think he was great defender other than his great ability to block shots...that won't happen in college near as much....now I only saw him for the championship game and a little of the semi so it's a pretty small sample size.....Too many people are high on him for him not to be good

all three of the top guys were deserving - Liddell, along with Dosunmu & Talen Horton-Tucker
This year the preponderance of Chicago area voters may have helped the downstate guy - as they likely split their votes between Dosunmu, Tucker, Griffin, Freeman & Conditt...while perhaps Liddell may have been favored by more of the downstate voters ...
on the girls' side- surprised so little respect for any of the Richwoods girls...
all they did was come out of nowhere to go 35-1, win STATE, totally dominate Morton like nobody has done in several years, and they won their 7 state playoff games by a total margin of 161 points (avg margin of 23 points)
Only one Richwood player got even a single vote, and their team's best player came in a distant 9th.

I didn't see how the vote came out, but I can tell you based on all of the girls basketball I saw this year, Beal definitely deserved to win. She is excellent.
