CONGRATS to Loyola!

I remember that 82-81 win over Tennessee in the first round in March, 1998 quite well. What an exciting game. Unfortunately, they were no match for Arizona in the 2nd round losing 82-49.

Let's recap Tennessee Vols history in post-season vs MVC in past 20 seasons:

#8 UT...lost to #9 ISU (1998.)
#4 UT...lost BADLY to #12 SW Mizzou St (1999)
#2 UT....lost to #7 Wichita State (2006)
#3 UT....lost to #11 Loyola (2018.)

Was hoping for the missing piece yesterday to bounce the #2, 3, and 4 seeded Vols.

Some great wins by MVC teams in the tourney in past 20 seasons!
Go VALLEY!!!

Loyola didn't knock off a pretender...
Tennessee is a quality team...
they were picked 13th in the SEC in their preseason poll but surprised everyone.

They finished the regular season ranked #13 ahead of Kentucky and were 25-8
They beat Kentucky twice...
They annihilated their first round opponent Wright State 73-47 and were strong favorites over Loyola...

So Loyola beat a very good team! Reminiscent of Bradley knocking off Kansas and Pitt in 2006

I don't know about you guys but I'm rooting for a Loyola vs UMBC match up in the elite eight. I want every bracket out there to be busted this year.

Headed to the Final Four!!

and they did it the same way again with very tight defense, and shooting efficiency..
Loyola shot 57.4% overall and 50% from 3-pt and also rebounded well

for the 4th game, they had a different hero who stepped up...
the first three wins were Ingram, Custer & Townes - and this time it was Ben Richardson...

Go Loyola!

I doubt if Loyola could have reached the Final Four if they had remained in the Horizon League.

Now, the question is, What conference will they be jumping to? Maybe the Big East will want to add another Catholic school.

I don't see a reason why Bradley couldn't improve enough to also reach the Final Four.

I just don't see any conference being interested in Loyola at this time, despite their enviable success. Their facilities are nowhere near up to par for the Big East, AAC, or Atlantic 10. They only draw barely over 2,000 per game, and their arena only holds a little over 4,000.
They do not play football, so that rules out just about every conference except the Big East and the A-10. and even those 2 conferences were not interested in Wichita State, which had far better athletic programs than Loyola does. So I don't see them coming after Loyola.

And one other factor- if they left the MVC, they not only would have to pay a huge exit fee, they would miss out on all the NCAA Tournament revenue they just won for the MVC, which does not start getting paid until 2019, and is then paid out over the next 6 years. Plus, whatever conference they moved to would not include them in their NCAA Tournament revenue distribution for at least a couple years. That is way too much money for a school like Loyola to afford to lose.

Another factor to remember... it took years of success and dominance from Creighton and Wichita before any discussions of conference upgrades.

ISU never gave Porter Moser a fair chance...
look what's happening to Loyola - and figure this could have been ISU over the past DECADE!!!
But it didn't happen overnite - heck, Moser had bad losing records for 4 of his first 5 years at Loyola - and probably some would have had him on the hot seat then!

ISU fired Moser after ONLY 4 years when he took over a monumental disaster left behind by Tom Richardson who left Porter with a team that went 8-21, and Richardson left behind a stable of players that nobody can remember their names - Vince Greene, Gregg Alexander, Baboucarr Bojang - need I say more...

Then four years later they fire Porter just as he fills his roster with quality players - handing over the Jankovich his entire starting lineup in 2007-08 when Porter's players comprised all five starters (Osiris, Dom, Slack, Dinma, and Keith "Poo" Richardson) and accounted for almost 50 ppg of their 65 team average!

That team went 25-10 - they beat Cincinnati, Creighton twice, Wichita twice and went 13-5 in a pretty tough MVC

They fired Porter way too soon - he would have gotten that bunch to the NCAA where Jank failed to do so...he'd have had them at the top of the MVC in the hunt for NCAA bids every year. The admin & fanbase that wanted Porter Moser fired deserve to be watching Porter Moser play in the Final Four with another team.

So if 4 years is not enough to show you can win, you're saying Bradley shouldn't have fired Geno Ford? :)
There are lots of coaches who are fired after 4 years of losing, some even sooner.

Moser's record at ISU was terrible- 10-19, 17-13, 9-19, 15-16. 3 losing seasons out of 4, and 2 in a row before he was fired. And his MVC record was even worse- 4-14, 8-10, 4-14, 6-12- 4 horrible losing seasons, including 2 last place finishes and one next-to-last place finish in the MVC. You don't think by year 4 he should have been better than 6-12 in the MVC (1 game out of last place)? ISU fans and their AD rightfully did. That last season, he had all those same players you claim were responsible for winning the next year, yet Moser couldn't do better than one game out of last place in the MVC. Jankovich came in and his first year with the same players won 25 games, the most wins in ISU history. I'd say it was a pretty good move. There is absolutely nothing that suggests Moser would have somehow miraculously turned into a great coach overnight and done better with those same players. In fact, the evidence suggests the opposite, that he would have underachieved, like he did his other 4 years there.
A lot of smart basketball people think Moser was constantly outcoached and beaten by teams with less talent.

Moser should thank the ISU AD. Because he was fired when he was (2007), he happened to be offered a spot on the new staff of first year head coach Rick Majerus at St. Louis. That would not have happened if he was not fired that year. Even Moser talks constantly about and attributes his experience with Majerus as the greatest influence on him becoming a better coach.

I see a difference...
.. in the 4th year at ISU Porter clearly had good talent...like I said - the entire starting five were solid players - Eldridge just a freshman - maybe given them a chance..plus he had Justin Dentmon, Dodie Dunson, Lorenzo Gordon - all quality players who WERE SIGNED but failed to make it to ISU or left way early...
Geno in his 4th year barely had any DI talent - everyone saw that, PLUS he wasn't even close to signing anyone for the next year either.

Porter's last year he was 15-16, a big improvement from the year before - with a few key wins (at St. John's..) and he even got votes for MVC Coach of the Year! (even got one 2nd place vote)
In firing him, they had to buy out THREE remaining years but they did it anyway under odd circumstances under pressure form a couple big money boosters..

That is all a matter of opinion. The opinion of those who counted, just like at Bradley in 2015, is that he wasn't a very good coach and needed to go. The change lead to 25, 24, and 22-win seasons at ISU.

the change also led to nothing more than a couple failed NIT appearances for ISU but a FINAL FOUR appearance by Loyola..

Well, if you believe Porter Moser would have taken ISU to the Final Four if they had kept him, I would bet you are the only one who buys that.

I like him, but that is not a relevant factor. Just stating facts. He wasn't a very good coach at ISU, and his firing was justified. He had a losing record after 4 seasons, and finished next-to-last in his 4th year, a standard that many schools use to evaluate the success of their coach. And I have never met a single ISU fan who was sorry to see him go. It is a bit of a stretch to believe he would have suddenly turned things around 180?° if they had kept him.
I am glad to see he is finally having success after 14 years as a head coach. In his first 13 seasons, he never finished higher than 5th place in his conference, and he has had 10 straight years of sub-.500 conference records prior to this season. He also has had 4 last place finishes in his previous 13 years, 3 of them in the MVC. Can you name any other MVC coach in history that has finished dead last 3 different times?
Even including his 15-3 record this season in the MVC, his career MVC record is just 64-98.

Loyola

Loyola

Hey Tornado, haven't you figured out this dacoach
Guy who thinks he knows it all and can't say anything nice about anyone in the valley other then Bradley.Go Ramblers but I bet this dacoach guy hopes they lose.

I am on here alot and don't agree with you most of the time because you are always so hateful and negative toward people who do not agree with you.I like other people's opinions however.I did want to know since you hate Wichita St and Greg Marshall do you feel the same way about all the other schools who have left the Valley over the years?
