Now being reported that Celtics assistant Walter McCarty is the new front-runner for the Evansville job-

He is another former Evansville high school star with no connection to the University of Evansville.

the Indiana State beat guy writes about a meltdown among SIU fans who want Barry Hinson fired

I think it was along the lines of this dispute-

The guy who runs their message board just shut down the whole board - sort of in protest that they didn't fire Hinson...

a few cuts so you don't have to click & read all the stupidity...

"....SalukiNation will close its doors for good. .... I have decided to go in this direction.

..This is strictly a decision based on my waning desire and passion for this program...
But all good things must come to an end.

This decision was almost made a year ago, for a lot of the same reasons, but I had some assurance,
some feeling in my gut that if we could hold on for just one more year, Barry would be removed from his duties
and we would be able to move on as a program and things would improve on here.
Obviously that has not happened. Barry will be back for another year barring something completely unforeseen and unexpected.

....things started to get vile and personal on here. ....the attacks intensified on here they began to spill off the site into people’s everyday lives.
I have no fear in telling you the final attack that broke the camel’s back was orchestrated by one particular poster.
.... there was an attempt to make good on those threats. An email campaign was started

This site, namely me, made a gamble with the devil and lost. If everything I just laid out had aided in a coaching change this site probably could have survived.
I probably could have lived with myself over that decision. But as it stands, with Hinson remaining and the integrity of this site compromised, it just can’t exist anymore."

          Interesting...

                    Interesting...

That is very interesting. The same thing nearly happened here when Les WAS fired and resulted in many top posters going elsewhere to revive a once nearly dead board. It's nice to see those things happen elsewhere too.

                      not really the same thing...

the vile rants from a small few smallminded fans at Bradley came from the people who wanted the coach fired and they got their way with the help of a corrupt and incompetent administration...in the process we lost two outstanding men (coach & AD) who have gone on to tremendous success elsewhere while we bottomed out.
Their vile rants got them what they wanted but then they found out how stupid they really were and what they brought upon the rest of the fans, and once the ranters, who also posted foul language & violent personal attacks against other posters were banned from this message board, it's been peaceful here ever since with 20 times the traffic and page views as the other site as we rebuild towards success - our fanbase is excited and growing...

At SIU, it seems the vile rants are happening only because they ARE NOT GOING TO GET THEIR WAY - and so the message board guy - who appears to have been a driving force in attacking Hinson's character - admitted he was a loser & just gave up and now it seems most everyone at SIU is unhappy and their attendance is way down despite finishing among the TOP TWO spots in the MVC - their fanbase is miserable & dwindling

So .. the difference is that by moderating the worst element on the message boards, the Bradley fanbase DID NOT suffer the total self-destruction that is occurring at SIU

Evansville reports over 400 new season ticket holders
University of Evansville athletics has seen a boom in new season-ticket sales after the announcement of Walter McCarty as the next basketball coach.

but it is a little confusing - they say...
"someone inquiring to buy four season tickets"
                        and
"more than 100 people signed up to surpass last year??™s total of new season-ticket holders"

..so I can't tell if that is 409 new purchasers (most of whom buy two or more tickets) or is it a total of 409 new seats sold to season ticket purchasers.

New Evansville head coach Walter McCarty completes his staff by hiring former Butler and Iowa head coach Todd Lickliter, and a former Butler assistant coach Matthew Graves, who was fired last month from the head coaching job at South Alabama. The other assistant coach was announced earlier this week, Terrence Commodore.

They have experience but have not been with particularly winning programs the past decade.
Lickliter has been head coach for six seasons since leaving Butler- with an overall record of 87-94 in those seasons
Graves has been head coach at South Alabama the past five seasons and is 65-96, never finishing higher than a tie for 6th in the Sun Belt.

Excited about the assistant hires. With Coach M coming in with no head coaching experience, it was very important that he have at least one former division 1 head coach on staff. Having 2 to me is a big deal. Will have to see how recruiting plays out, but I am cautiously optimistic. Still a long road to go, but good start.
