Drake wins this afternoon's first round game in he CollegeInsider Tournament
Final score
Drake 80 - Abilene Christian 73 in overtime
Drake had a 10-point lead with 1:50 to go in regulation, but Abilene Christian scored the last 10 points of regulation
Abilene Christian was 12-16 vs. DI opponents (they had four wins over non-DI teams) and 8-10 in the Southland Conference,
plus, they have no wins over any team with an RPI better than 192, no road wins over any team whose RPI is better than 224, and they have only beaten one team who has a winning record (they beat Sam Houston State 15-14)
So Drake should have won this game easily
but Drake's Reed Timmer hit just 1 of 13 shots and was 0-8 from 3-pt range.
Also it appears Drake may have caught some breaks at the FT line where they went 24-29 while Abilene shot just 3 FTs!
Drake's next game will be determined once all the 1st round games are done.... but the obvious matchup of Drake and CMU stands out as a possibility.
Central Michigan beat IPFW 94-89 this afternoon and CMU is coached by ex-Drake head coach Keno Davis.
Admission was free and they got a decent number of people on spring break - but Drake had issued this excuse form
for people to give to their boss to ditch work today & go to the game...
