wonder if Muller waited for Nixon to choose, then went for his fall-back options

btw- Iowa State is so heavily invested in these DI transfers that I wonder if other instate kids just won't consider them knowing they always bring in boatloads of transfers who start and take all the playing time...They also have a lot of transfers out....Hmmm....the Illinois kids headed over to Iowa State may have to find out the hard way

He will have to sit out a year but has two years remaining..
His numbers from this past year at Evansville- only played 22 games due to injury, 13.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.7 assists, 48.2% on 3-pt shooting
in the two games we played against Evansville, we held him to a little under his averages

A little bit surprising....Missouri already got a commitment from ex-Illini PG Mark Smith, and they have another good point guard recruit coming in the class of 2018, Xavier Pinson, and they are still in the running for perhaps the best point guard in the class of 2018 Courtney Ramey.
Plus, they are hotly in pursuit of several top ranked point guards in the class of 2019, as well.
And probably none of those other point guards are one-and-done prospects, and they are all younger than Dru Smith. So when Smith finally becomes eligible in 2019-20, he could be competing for playing time with numerous other much higher rated point guards who will be there for the final 2 years of Smith's eligibility.
Even if he is hoping to get playing time at the shooting guard position, that spot could be just as crowded as point guard. Missouri has several talented SG's coming in, and they are in hot pursuit of several others in the classes of 2018 & 2019.

                  • one of Florida State's promising young players is leaving & transferring
7-0 Ike Obiagu only played 10 min per game but hit 58% from the field and got 2 blocks per game, 2.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg

                    • He is a raw 7-footer, but could be a game-changer for a midmajor-level school. He averaged 2.1 blocks per game.
That would have lead the MVC in blocks last year, and he only played 10.7 minutes per game.
I wonder if we have anyone with a connection to Florida State.

                      • San Jose State transfer Jaycee Hillsman tells me he will visit Illinois State this weekend-...
I guess neither of their recent transfer guys will be eligible til next year...

ISU will be subject to depth issues then next year- especially if they have any injuries to their big three...
since the two transfers will have to sit out, and many of their returning players have limited DI playing experience (Copeland, Chastain) or averaged 5 ppg or less (Williams, Bruninga, Hein, Gassman, Clarance) or are completely new and untested (Idowu, Jefferson and even Copeland)
Tinsley, who took a bunch of shots & 2nd most 3-pt attempts, still only averaged 6 ppg.
They were very good when their big three players were on and the other guys chipped in some contributions, but in other games like their losses here, at Valpo and UNI & to Charleston So., they basically had just 2 or 3 guys doing the scoring.

I actually expect ISU to have the best depth in the MVC. Time will certainly tell, but I sure wish UE had this problem. I know my friends who are ISU fans are pretty excited.
Cheering with pep and vim for the white and purple!

                          • They do have decent guard depth, though they don't get much production from anyone other than Evans.
Here is their 2018-19 guard lineup (MVC scoring last season)-
                            Evans (13.2 ppg)
                            Clarance (3.5 ppg)
                            Hein (4.7 ppg)
                            Tinsley (6.7 ppg)
                            Williams (4.4 ppg)
                            Gassman (3.9 ppg)
                            Chastain (redshirt)
                            Copeland (redshirt).

But inside depth is questionable, IMO.
The only non-guards on their roster are Fayne, Yarbrough, Bruninga, Romine, and walkon Litwiller.
Fayne and Yarbrough are All-MVC candidates if they stay healthy, but beyond those two....Romine hasn't played a minute in 2 years (and he averaged only 0.9 ppg and 0.4 rpg in his time at UTEP), Bruninga doesn't really play like a big man (averaged less than 2 rebounds per game in MVC play), and Litwiller is a non-factor (only played a total of 9 minutes total over ISU's last 26 games).

Shea Feehan had a tremendous season at Eureka, graduated, and is now looking to transfer to a D1 school to play his final season.
He now has a scholarship offer from Bryant University (located in Smithfield, Rhode Island- member of the Northeast Conference).
Oakland, Evansville, High Point, and Delaware are all showing interest, too.

                              • Here's one I would love to see at Bradley...a surprise late transfer...

SEMO's best player Denzel Mahoney...averaging almost 20 ppg and has 3 years left to play..
we held him to only 17, but it took great games from Eli & Luuk to win that game
