There were lots of demands for Lusk to be fired, especially after last night's loss and elimination from the tournament.
And that site that reported last night that Lusk was fired still shows the story. They have not taken it down, retracted or edited their story-
But I would not quite call that site "journalism". It is essentially a sports blogging site dedicated to Ozark area high school and college sports.
Almost immediately, there was celebration among MSU fans, but the Athletic Director, Kyle Moats, quickly disputed the story-
Nothing more has emerged this morning, though I do expect Missouri State will make a coaching change.
That is too bad. Paul Lusk is a great guy and well respected among coaches and media. I think he'll get another job quickly.
Things just didn't go well for him at MSU. In his 7 seasons, he has never had a winning record in the MVC-

remember, the last couple years that they offered money-back guarantees on tickets?
No team in Missouri Valley Conference history
picked to win the conference has finished lower than fifth
until the Bears finished seventh this season

And UNI was picked 2nd, right behind Missouri State, and they finished tied with MSU for 7th, and ended up seeded 9th. The preseason poll this year was way off from the final standings.
Not a good year for those picking.
Here is the 2017-18 preseason poll alongside the final standings-

The coaching search at Missouri State to find a replacement for Paul Lusk is still ongoing. But now there are rumors that the AD is telling candidates that they must keep one of their assistant coaches on staff, and keep their Director of Basketball Operations if he is hired. These demands are reportedly causing some legitimate candidates to back off. Few coaches want an administration meddling with their choices for assistant coaches.
Where have we seen this disaster before?
This is the same AD that called out and criticized the local media for reporting right after Missouri State was eliminated from the MVC Tournament that Lusk was going to be fired and he said it wasn't true. Then just hours later he fired Lusk. He also was not entirely open and honest about the Missouri State unconventional and unproven team cryotherapy treatments that caused serious injury to 2 players back in January, ended their seasons, and was followed by the team losing 9 of their last 12 games for a team picked to win the conference.
Also rumored that former Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter (currently a UNLV assistant) was approached for the job if he kept the top assistant Corey Gipson, and the DOBO.

There is an internet rumor that a booster who put up some money to buy out Paul Lusk is the one insisting that whoever is hired must retain top assistant Corey Gipson. That will cause some problems with a lot of potential candidates.

details of what Missouri State had to pay to buy out Paul Lusk...
total package means he gets around $500,000 or so (buyout, remaining salary then TV & radio show fees) and is free to work any other job after April 1, 2018.
