  • All MVC teams- Bradley lands 2 players on All-MVC teams

Bradley's first All Conference players since Walt Lemon, and the first time Bradley has had 2 All MVC players since 2010-
Donte Thomas is voted to 2nd team All-MVC, and Darrel Brown, Jr. lands on the 3rd team All-MVC-
Senior forward Donte Thomas and sophomore guard Darrell Brown highlighted the conference honorees for the Bradley basketball team, announced by the Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday.

In addition, Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye was named to the MVC All-Defensive team, and Elijah Childs was named to the MVC All-Freshman team.

Congratulations to all the Bradley standout athletes!

Full press release from the MVC listing all the names on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team All-MVC, and the complete list of All-Newcomer and All-Freshman teams.
There are only 2 seniors on each of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd All-MVC teams, meaning that if nobody else leaves before their eligibility is up, as many as 9 of the top 15 players will return to the MVC next year.-

The Larry Bird Player of the Year will be announced at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (as well as the the league's Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year.   Caoch of the Year will be announced on Thursday, March 1.

The Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and 6th Man of the Year will all be announced at 2 PM today.
The Most Improved team and the All-Bench Team will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 28.
The Coach of the Year will be announced at the lunch banquet on Thursday, March 1.

Congrats to Donte, Darrell, DLO & Elijah - basically our starting five (minus 1)

Did I miss something or did Keyshawn Evans get completely snubbed?

..and does the MVC just not value defense??? Not one member of the ALL DEFENSE TEAM made either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Team All Conference
(ps- I think Elijah Childs deserved serious consideration for the All Defense Team)
...meanwhile, a couple of the 3rd Teamers (Koch, Scott) had off years (despite playing more minutes) and their teams suffered badly as a result landing in or near the basement.

MVC Player of the Year and specialty teams

The Larry Bird Player of the year is Loyola's Clayton Custer. The Preseason POY, MSU's Alize Jihnson, was a distant second
The Defensive Player of the Year is Loyola's Ben Richardson.
Loyola's Cameron Krutwig is the Freshman of the Year.
Milik Yarbrough is the Newcomer of the Year.
SIU's Tyler Smithpeters is the Sixth Man of the year.
Custer has engineered the Ramblers to one of the most historic seasons in school history, which includes a 25-5 overall mark and 15-3 MVC record and No. 1 seed at Arch Madness.

The The All-Bench and Most-Improved teams will be annpounced tomorrow.

          further Valley awards

SIU's Tyler Smithpeters is the Captain of the All-Bench Team, with other members -
Valpo's Markus Golder, UNI's Wyatt Lohaus, Missouri State's Reggie Scurry, Loyola's Lucas Williamson & Drake's Graham Woodward
(Scurry MISSED more than 1/2 of the MVC Conference season)

Indiana State's Jordan Barnes is Captain of the Most Improved Team, with other members -
SIU's Aaron Cook, Loyola's Clayton Custer, SIU's Sean Lloyd, Drake's Nick McGlynn & Evenasville's Dru Smith
(hard to imagine Donte Thomas did not make the Most Improved Team)

I won't argue with those 5 All-Bench selections, mainly because there weren't many other legitimate candidates this season.
Here are some stats for comparison-

Here are the stats for the All Bench team-
Tyler Smithpeters- 7.5 ppg (5th highest on SIU), 4.1 rpg, 2.3 apg (played in 31 games, started 5)
Markus Golder- 9.4 ppg (4th highest on Valpo), 4.4 rpg, 1.2 apg (played in 31 games, started 5)
Wyatt Lohaus- 9.0 ppg (4th highest on UNI), 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg (played in 22 games, started 0)
Reggie Scurry- 8.9 ppg (4th highest on MSU), 4.2 rpg, 0.1 apg (played in 21 games, started 2)
Lucas Williamson- 4.7 ppg (7th highest on Loyola), 1.9 rpg, 1.0 apg (played in 30 games, started 5)
Graham Woodward- 9.4 ppg (4th highest on Drake), 2.0 rpg, 1.6 apg (played in 31 games, started 6)

            Bradley's top "bench player"-
Elijah Childs- 8.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg (played in 31 games, started 11)- probably started too many games for the voters to consider for All Bench team

Kennell was also a 6th man, altho he started a few times when injuries required...
He averaged 9.3 ppg and hit 40% on 3-pointers

I think that Kennel makes the team go. Donte drives the effort given, but Kennel scoring just makes this team hard to beat! I hope he gets hot in the tourney. If so, we are going to play on Sunday.

You are right pfcmsh. And it is proven by his stats.

In the 9 MVC games that Bradley won- Nate was 33-73 overall (45.2%), 25-51 from three (49.0%), and his scoring average was 11.9 ppg.

In the 9 MVC games that Bradley lost- Nate was 20-69 overall (29.0%), 15-49 from three (30.6%), and his scoring average was 6.6 ppg.

So Nate is one of the most important keys to the offense, and to Bradley's chance of winning. Let's hope he has a great game.

                    Thanks Da Coach!

I had a feeling. It just seemed like that to me, but I was too lazy to look up the stats. Wow!! Thank you for doing that! We are lucky to have you and tornado and all you both have done for bradleyfans.com.

Go Nate and Go Braves! We can get really close to winning this tournament, if we just play aggressive and with some confidence!
