  • MVC teams: gains/losses in 2018-19

..barring unexpected losses, and I am sure there will be some...especially a couple possible grad transfers
plus very few incoming freshmen will have an impact but that's left to be decided..

Here is the current list of NEW guys being added to 2018-19 rosters - LINK

Bradley: Loses Donte Thomas/Returns everyone else/Adds Antoine Pittman back, Armon Brummett, possibly Aristide Boya

Drake: Loses not just Reed Timmer but also Rivers, Woodward, McMurray, Arogundade (that's 80% of all game-starts & over 70% of their production/Returns only one of their top 6 players- Nick McGlynn/Incoming SEVEN freshmen including Kendle Moore, Larry Wise... Drake probably has the biggest losses.

Evansville: Loses Hainna, Traore, Gibson, Simmons/Returns league-leading scorer Ryan Taylor but he will likely be a HUGE grad-transfer target/Adds 2 new freshmen

Illinois State: Loses very little- just Jerron Martin/Returns all major components/adds Zach Copeland, Christian Romine, Matt Chastain, and freshmen Demontay Dixon & Rey Idowu. But Yarbrough will be a 5th year player so he might also be targeted as a grad transfer like MiKyle McIntosh & Deontae Hawkins

Indiana State: Loses starters Brenton Scott, Qiydar Davis & Brendan Murphy plus Ojinnaka/Returns leading scorer Jordan Barnes/Adds Cooper Neese, DeAvion Washington & one other incoming freshman.

Loyola: Loses starters Donte Ingram, Ben Richardson, Aundre Jackson /Returns leading scorer Clayton Custer & Cameron Krutwig/Adds 3 incoming freshmen incl. Franklin Agunanne and New Mexico transfer Aher Uguak.

Missouri State: They take a big hit in losing Alize Johnson and also lose Rousseau, Rhodes, Bhullar/Possibly return Reggie Scurry & Abdul Fofana from cryotherapy-injured list/Add transfer Jarred Ridder (Missouri Mr. Basketball last year), also add injured Greg Williams, and one other freshman and possibly (?) juco Grant Gelon

Northern Iowa: Loses top two players Koch & Carlson, plus Friedman, and Rhodes/Return Tywhon Pickford who tailed off a lot down the stretch/Add one new freshman AJ Green

SIU: Loses Smithpeters and Wiley/Return Thik Bol from injury/Add 3 freshmen incl. Darius Beane

Valparaiso: Loses starters Tevonn Walker & Max Joseph - also lost starter Joe Burton/Add two incoming freshmen including Javon Freeman-Liberty

Missouri State returns Dixon, Church, and Lawrence. They could surprise a few teams.

Possibly, and a lot will depend of the coaching factors - will Lusk still be there...
but also, they might struggle to find scoring...

As it was, they were in the 50's or lo 60's in NINE of their conference games...
and tho Lawrence hardly played the first half of the season..then played well the 2nd half and logged 30 min per game occasionally- he still averaged just 4.7 ppg and Church 6.7 ppg.

after being assured many times that there was nothing to worry about with Greg Williams, and that he was going to be a very significant contributor at Missouri State...

..now, after a couple years of repeated medical issues and failed surgeries - reportedly Greg Williams is "stepping away from basketball".
That will give whoever is the new head coach at Missouri State at least four open scholarships to work with
(Rousseau, Rhodes, Johnson, Miller & Bhullar graduating, Kabir Mohammed & Grant Gelon committed but Bell decommitted - and now Williams gone)

A couple more changes on the Missouri State roster-
As previously noted. Reggie Scurry transferred to Middle Tennessee.

Abdul Fofana, the backup center who was the other player seriously injured by the cryotherapy session last season, has decided to remain at Missouri State, but he will red-shirt this coming season in hopes that the tissue and nerve damage in his feet will continue to improve.

But just announced today, promising freshman Mustafa Lawrence, who played significant minutes as a freshman and even started the final 9 games last season has decided to leave Missouri State and transfer. He averaged 4.7 ppg and shot 39% from three. he would have been their 4th highest returning scorer from last season, and the top scorer among non-seniors.

With the departure of Lawrence and the red-shirt for Fofana, new Missouri State head coach will have only 4 players returning from last year's team-
starters Jarred Dixon (Sr- 9.1 ppg) and Obediah Church (Sr- 6.7 ppg), reserve Ryan Kreklow (Sr. 5.2 ppg), and little used walk-on Ross Owens (Jr. 1.2 ppg).
They do have a couple kids coming off redshirt years (Darian Scott, Jared Ridder, and James Byrd), a bunch of new juco recruits (Kabir Mohammed, Keandre Cook, Darnell Butler, & Grant Gelon), and a couple freshmen (Polish recruits Szymon & Jan Wojcik).

wow - that's a lot of roster turnover...and Lawrence was really playing well down the stretch...

but I think if you read between the lines, there's a lot more to this story on the "cryotherapy injuries"

-"Both Fofana and former Bears forward Reggie Scurry suffered severe foot blisters in January, which ended their seasons."

-"The News-Leader has continuously asked for more details on the cryotherapy incident and the administration's investigation into the incident but Missouri State has declined to provide any details."

-"It was the worst pain I've ever had ... blisters on their feet which MSU said were being treated as a severe burn."
            "His feet were essentially frozen.."

I think someone is lying when they say it was just blisters, when they say the incident didn't play into the firings, and when they say the injuries aren't bad enough to cause long-term problems - how can they even know that yet when both these guys are taking maybe 1-2 years to recover????

Cryotherapy, altho controversial and really without a whole lot of proven benefit - has been used widely all over the nation and injuries like this just don't happen - except apparently at Missouri State - where it has severely injured TWO PEOPLE.

Blisters are injuries that are just skin-deep and usually only as deep as the superficial layer of skin.
But the MSU players' injuries are being treated as severe burns - so it is pretty clear there is damage to the tissue on their feet that goes way deeper than just skin deep.

But I think you can add together
-their UN-willingness to talk or be honest about the injuries
-with the severity of such injuries coming from a treatment method that is considered quacky to begin
-and the fact that they are scrambling to hide or spin all the serious fallout from this and promising to never do this again...

... then I think they are covering up serious negligence & they know it....now they are trying keep the negative stuff out of the papers and hoping they don't get hit with huge lawsuits.

Another article from this afternoon about the cryotherapy mishap with comments from new head coach Dana Ford-

                wow - Coach Ford says-
"When Ford was asked if Fofana would play again, he said that he's not healthy enough to play right now.

"If he ever gets cleared to play and basketball's something he wants to do, I'm sure that could be a possibility..
More importantly us providing him with his education ... we want him to get a degree.""

...whoa ...that doesn't sound very good - sounds more like Dana Ford doesn't really expect Fofana to ever play again!

I suspect there was a leak of the liquid nitrogen and it flooded the lower part of the chamber & came in direct contact with the players' feet.

As most know - liquid nitrogen is a clear liquid that would impart a temperature of -321 and if it came in contact with any human flesh, the tissue would freeze solid instantly - it would be the worst case scenario of FROSTBITE imaginable. One can only wonder how bad their foot injuries are but I guarantee they are NOT just blisters as we have been told.

a couple more quotes on the cryotherapy incident:

"Missouri State University has conducted an investigation into a whole-body cryotherapy incident that severely injured two men's basketball players, but says it has no plans to release the findings to the public ??” now or ever.???

.... details of the investigation are ... exempt from release under Missouri's Sunshine Law.???

Missouri State's head coach Dana Ford kinda tries to temper expectations of the incoming Polish twins...
"Dana Ford warned not to expect too much from Jan and Szymon Wojcik right away. He made it pretty clear they’re projects." - LINK
