Sy Chatman is a 6-8 (some reports say 6-9) wing from Minnesota who is labelled
the top uncommitted recruit in Minnesota and is blowing up - his other current offers include Richmond, Toledo, UMass, Siena & others
Sy Chatman, who Bradley coaches recruited and liked, chose UMass in April 2018. He looked like a big, athletic forward with a lot of potential.
In his freshman season at UMass, he played in 29 games, started 4 games, averaged 14 minutes per game, and averaged 3.7 ppg & 2.2 rpg.
This season, he was mysteriously absent from the team for the first 2 months of the season, and he ended up missing their first 5 games. Neither he nor his coach were willing to reveal why he was not with the team until late November, and the only explanation was "leave of absence". He has now appeared in their last 5 games, and UMass has lost all 5 of them.
In the 5 recent games he has played in, he is averaging 5.7 ppg and 3.5 rpg, and has looked good at times, but he has has been turnover prone and taken bad shots which frustrated his coach..
In their most recent game, an overtime loss to Yale, he actually started, but was scoreless with no rebounds, and was yanked from the game in the first half by the UMass coach for what some sources report was lackadaisical play. He only played 2 minutes after halftime. Now he has officially put his name into the NCAA transfer portal. https://twitter.com/VerbalCommits/st...60594851389440
I don't see Bradley being interested with two 6'9" forwards already signed.
Yes. We can afford to be picky at this time. I am hoping for a quality PG or a physical 6'6, 245 LB power forward that can bang and rebound inside. A Ja'Shon Henry clone would be nice.

Looks like ISU is still desperate to sign anyone with size.
One-time 2018 Bradley recruit Sy Chatman, who fell into the coaches' doghouse at UMass for "selfish and lackadaisical play" early this past season and was dismissed from the team in December, 2019, is one of the shrinking number of uncommitted transfers still looking for another D1 offer.
Well, after all other D1 coaches have passed on him, now Dan Muller has come through with an offer to Illinois State.
They don't call ISU "Transfer U" for nothing.
It is reportedly Sy Chatman's only D1 offer after being in the Transfer Portal almost 6 months, so I suspect there is a good chance he'll end up at ISU. He will probably have to sit out a year because of NCAA rules. Six (6) of the 12 scholarship players on the 2019-20 ISU roster were transfers from another 4-year school. Plus, Muller has been actively recruiting numerous other D1 transfers this off-season, but has managed to only sign a bunch of junior college transfers. So Chatman should fit right in.
They have had an incredible amount of turnover at ISU. Here is a list of some of their players who left the team with eligibility remaining in just the last 4 years or so- Deontae Hawkins, Mykyle McIntosh, Daoud Ndiaye, Elvis Harvey, Andre Washington, Roland Griffin, Madison Williams, Hank Beard, Josh Jefferson, Matt Hein, Elijah Clarance, Lijah Donnelly, Isaac Gassman, Matt Chastain, Luke Litwiller, Christian Romine, Rey Idowu, Taylor Bruninga, Nick Banyard, Reggie Lynch, and maybe more I am missing. Got to be some kind of record.
