  • Who is your current pick for MVC Coach of the Year & other awards?

we're halfway thru the Valley season...and things could change dramatically but here's what I think so far from my biased perspective...

Player of the Year - a couple bad games but Alize Johnson is still averaging 14.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg (16.1 ppg/13.1 rpg in league play)

I'd give the Newcomer of the Year to Milik Yarbrough

Freshman of the Year - Tywhon Pickford, 10.6 ppg, 8.6 rpg- altho Krutwig (9.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Elijah Childs (8.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg) are in the running)

Defensive Player of the Year - DLO, Most Improved - Donte Thomas

Coach of the Year - this one is hard to say right now - it depends entirely on who puts on a run and wins on the road in the next 9 games.
Porter Moser is clearly the frontrunner right now, but then Loyola was picked to be up there contending. If Bradley can finish strong (and finish in the top 2 or 3) then I'd give the award to Brian Wardle.
It's looking now like Drake is fading - but Niko Medved is also in the running if they win the Valley. And don't entirely count out Barry.

The MVC stats are updated thru this morning...

    a couple things I noted...

    - The top five scorers in MVC play are Ryan Taylor, Jordan Barnes, Milik Yarbrough, Alize Johnson, Brenton Scott -
and all five are on teams that are at or below .500 in Valley play

    - Darrell Brown now leads all players in MVC play with 4.9 assists per game

    - Bradley has only one of the top 20 players in minutes played per MVC game - DB - this might work to our advantage by the end of the season

    - our free throw pct in MVC play is .775! We have not shot FTs that well since 2009-10 (.772)

    - Bradley leads the MVC if FG% defense - holding opponents to just .408

    - over the past 3 games (all wins) we have shot the 3-pt shot at 43% - much better than we had the previous 3 games (26%)

    - one player who has been mentioned as being in the running for MVC POY leads the MVC in turnovers by a very wide margin - Milik Yarbrough
