  • ISU's top commit renegs

Bloomington's Chris Payton (2019) says he isn't going to keep his commitment to ISU & is reopening his recruitment

He is having a fine year and getting some great writeups so I suspect he's been getting a lot of calls from much bigger schools
(just like Justin Dentmon, Reggie Lynch and a few others did) and heck, why not answer those calls and listen to what they have to say since nowadays all the big schools are getting away with paying their players
Watch for him to instantly get courted by Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio State, other Big Ten schools ...maybe BE or AAC? There was once a mention that he wants to play with ex-Manual Adam Miller....or maybe he'll end up at Bradley instead.

What's not shocking tho is how many players commit or land at ISU then pull up and head somewhere else. One guy just tweeted that ISU is a dumpster fire right now with all that's going on - selfishness, losing, arguing with the coaches, chemistry issues, fans who don't care and don't show up.
Heck, I can relate tho as well as any fan since a couple administrators left us with a dumpster fire for a few years here!!
But, it is a full blown revolving door over there - and you have to wonder with the turmoil, just who's next?
Will Yarbrough look for greener pastures (he is finishing his 4th year of college and with al the summer work, ought to have his degree soon).
How about the possibility that Muller will clear space and open up a couple scholarships to go out recruiting this spring because right now he doesn't have any open scholarships available for fall of 2018
There's 6 or 7 guys on their roster who can't score or can't rebound or both - and several whose playing time has been diminishing dramatically since Clarance & N'Diaye can finally play. Woud it shock anyone to see a couple of them gone to open space to try to get some help?

I kind of suspected this might happen. He is a 2019 recruit, so not eligible to enroll for another 1?? years. It is somewhat rare for midmajors like MVC teams to land recruits as far ahead as he committed, and even rarer that they actually end up on campus.

And we still have never heard an answer to the mystery of his older brother Charles. Charles Payton was an highly rated recruit from Bloomington High School, too. He left his team in the middle of his junior season, and eventually transferred to Olympia HS, where he played his senior season. He had several D1 offers, but never committed anywhere and he seemed to drop out of sight. There were reports that he had enrolled at Lincoln Trail Junior College in Southern Illinois, but he has never shown up on their roster.

I was totally shocked when he committed to ISU so early. This kid is the real deal and not a Valley kid. He will go much higher. I told several friends he would never end up at ISU. AS much as I dislike ISU I do hate to hear about all their problems because of TB. He is a great kid from a real good family and I think the coach deserves a lot of these problems for the lack of discipline in the program.

I heard a few things tonight - remember, our staff was also on him and offered...
There have been some recent developments...can you say baggage..
but........a lot of really talented kids still get pursued despite baggage..

not sure what you are driving at - clearly he is proud to discuss his Bradley offer....
gotta admit --- he is ON an Illini vist and mentions the Bradley offer - it clearly indicates he must have some interest in playing at Bradley..
