  • Crouch return?

First of all just wanted to say that I'm new to the board, obviously. Originally from Illinois I am now sadly far away from Bradley country and Peoria. I've visited the board a lot this year but only started posting recently.

Anywho, with big games against Creighton and a still dangerous Wichita State, what do you think about Crouch coming back? I saw the thread about Les' comments on his show this Monday, didn't know if anyone actually in Peoria had an update. I still think we can win both games but I'd feel better about the weekend if we had him.

    Thanks and GO BRAVES!!

Don't have any knowledge about Jeremy other than what has been stated publically, but knowing a little about knee anatomy and injuries, I would guess they will keep him out at least 4 full weeks to allow for healing of the ligament before letting him play. That would mean my guess for his return would be the Jan. 31 game at home against Creighton, or the Feb. 3 game at ISU. Again this is just my guess, maybe we'll hear something more definite soon.

At the end of the PJ Star article today, coach mentioned that it might be possible, with doctors clearence, for JC to suit up and just warm up in pre-game, then not play. But the question was then posed would coach be able to keep JC on the sideline knowing he was dressed ... and he said something to the affect of "I'd hope that I'd have the restraint to keep him from playing."

The thing about this is earlier in the article he was quoted as saying that though he is pain free, Jeremy wasn't close to being ready to play.

Today's article in the Journal Star:

Crouch, who's missed the last five games with a knee sprain, is making progress, Les said, but is still not close to being able to play.

"Each day we've ramped up his workouts in length and intensity," Les said. "His response from a pain standpoint has all been excellent. Jeremy is champing at the bit to do more, but we want to keep it as controlled as possible. We want to make sure he's right."

The plan is to get Crouch some quality practice time before putting him in a game situation. If the junior guard asked to suit up and go through pregame warmups, Les said that might be a possibility if head trainer Marcus Ohnemus approves.

In that circumstance, could the coach restrain himself from putting his leading scorer into the game?

"I'd like to think I wouldn't get that caught up in the heat of the moment to do that," Les said, chuckling.

Then again, there's that edge matter to consider. Just having Crouch go through warmups just might be enough to send Altman over the edge.

Monday night on his radio show JL said not this week. Personally, I'm hoping for a return to uniform ASAP and at least testing the waters at home vs. ISU next week.

I think theres a possibility he'll suit up Sat, but he wont see real playing time 'til Wednesday.

I certainly hope JC returns asap, but it will take a few games to get back to basketball shape both stamina and probably shooting wise.

But I wanted to address his injury as it is similar to the injury Phillip Gilbert had a few years ago. The team response and JL and staffs response has been so strong in regard to JC's injury. I think this response shows the complete maturity of our program and JL's as a D1 coach. Essentially there is not a situation that BU can or might encounter. The attitude is so strong with our program and it has injected itself into the everyone associated with the program.

Were no more experienced then we were on the court comparable to when Gilbert was hurt but we are so much more experienced on our bench.

I guess the bottom line is I beleive JL can and will acheive any goal he may have set for our program and that is something I dont think I can ever remember feeling about BU.

I wouldn't be surprised if JC didn't warm-up with the team tonight!

Jeremy did not suit up, I saw him on the bench in a grey Bradley Braves T-Shirt with a pair of Bradley warmup pants and top.

Someone told me JC was dressed and warming up. Listening to the pre-game and see if I hear something.

Updating what I heard.... (tonight for the Wichita St game)

JC was dressed doing warmups and shooting around some time around 1 hr before tip off but got back into street clothes. I asked what he was doing and the guy said everything. I asked if he was running and he said yes.

Talked to BadleyBrave tonight at the game and I guess he watched JC go though a solid half hour workout during the shoot around. JC seems to be a 50/50 for Wed. against ISU and certainly should be back for next Sat.
Basketball doesn't build character it reveals it.

When we get JC back, Creighton, SIU, UNI had better look out! If we can continue to win without him, think of how good we're going to be when we get him back! I'd love to see a tough BU squad with JC play on the road at MSU for some payback.
