Bol out for the year at SIU

In this article from The Southern Illinoisan from Saturday, Hinson said Bol was going to play in today's game. Apparently his injured knee flared up after their workout, and that plan was scrapped, and he did not play today.
Latest report-
As noted elsewhere, ISU's leading scorer Keyshawn Evans suffered a knee injury in practice and will miss 1 to 3 weeks. He did not play today.
In other injury news, ISU center David Ndiaye played for the first time today, logging 14 minutes. He was scoreless with 1 rebound.
Another previously injured player, Elijah Clarance, played 10 minutes in today's game, the most he's played all season. He was also scoreless and had no rebounds and 2 assists. He has played in 5 games so far. So it looking like the plan is for neither of them to take a medical redshirt year.
For the record, both are still eligible to take a medical redshirt year according to the NCAA rules, as long as they don't play in more than 30% of their scheduled games, and as long as they don't play past the mid-point of their team's schedule, which will happen after a couple more games.

altho the NCAA has made exceptions, one of the requirements is that they have to suffer season-ending injuries, but
quite possibly both have recovered enough from their injuries that they might no longer qualify..
they also cannot play beyond the mid-point of the season, and that happens a week from today so they have to decide soon.

It seems the decision to shut Bol down for the rest of the year came either late Saturday or early Sunday morning.
He said this (Sunday, Dec. 31) as stated on the SIU web site
Thik Bol "would be sidelined the rest of the season with the knee injury
that has kept him off the floor to date.
"We had to announce that to our guys this morning," Hinson said...
...we hit the lowest point this morning."
So if Barry Hinson had to announce it to his team that morning, then they knew well before the game that Bol was not playing and was done for the season.

Was on the Saluki board and this is a hot topic. Many saying this does not add up and are predicting that Bol will transfer.

CARBONDALE — SIU's men's basketball team is hardly the only one in the Missouri Valley Conference dealing with big injuries before the season.
I think it is entirely possible that a cartilage repair like Bol must have had could take a long time to heal, and that this decision to redshirt him now is just due to his injury & surgery, and the finding that he just isn't healed enough to return to playing.
