t....I would be interested in your view of Ari Boya. Truly, how good is he right now? How good could he be after 1 year at Bradley? Can he really help us or is he just another Koch Bar project? Thanks for your opinion.

well, not a lot of the 7-footers or near-7-footer Africans are dominant game changers...
I can think of a few such as Hakeem Olajuwon and Hasheem Thabeet...
but the majority are just tall shot blockers and don't help much offensively...
..and I can't think of many in the MVC that was ever much of a factor...
Dinma Odiakosa was a factor but not until after he had been at ISU for FIVE seasons...his first four seasons there he only accumulated averages of about 6 ppg/5 rpg
Several others I can think of recently are Kobby Acquah, Ehimen Orukpe, Chadrack Lufile,
Tijan Jobe, Bawa Muniru, Beas Hamga, Obij Aget, Chier Ajou, and maybe ISU's Daouda N'Diaye...plus all those Sudanese guys that we talked about who were at Mooseheart...
but I'll bet the average Bradley fan barely remembers most of them
so - to express my thoughts on Ari Boya...
Three things make Ari a bit different than the others...
-one is that he is a true 7-1, maybe not a HUGE point but those extra couple inches will block a lot more shots
-he seems a bit more developed & athletic for just being a high school sophomore, so just maybe he will be MVC-ready in a couple years when he gets here
-he is getting top notch training and coaching - unlike a few of the others who bounced around to different prep schools and never did develop.
Read this about the head coach (Chris Cheyney) at SCS Prep where Ari Boya is right now...
the guy is widely known as one of the top prep coaches around
so I think Ari Boya is our best bet for a dominant big man in at least a decade and maybe even several decades... -
t, I believe you mentioned Boya's possible contributions to Bradley when he gets to Bradley in two years. Has he stopped trying to get reclassified for graduation this year?Comment

He has all this winter, then spring & summer & if he can graduate, then maybe he can enroll as a 2018 recruit.
We may not know til late spring...
but if Bradley is still sitting on an open scholarship come May 9, 2018, then I think we can hope it's being held for Ari.Comment

He would have to demonstrate the likelihood of finishing all his high school requirements by end of summer 2018, when he's only been in high school for a little over 2 years so far.
So maybe he can still do it but I doubt we will know for at least 4-5 more months. He is NOT at a diploma mill, he is taking legitimate courses thru internationally known private high school curriculum both in classroom & online.
He is currently playing as a 2019 Indiana Elite player but nothing about that would prevent him from graduating early and being eligible in 2018.Comment

What I was referring to is playing AAU ball the summer before enrolling in college. Are there any examples of kids re-classifying ahead one year and still playing AAU ball up until college Fall Semester?Comment

I can't give you any names off the top of my head, but I know it has happened before. In fact, sometimes when a kid reclassifies a year earlier, he might be more likely to play an extra year of AAU ball over the summer before college, just to get more exposure and get offers, since colleges had previously thought he was not going to finish high school for another year. And in a case like Boya's, when his effort to reclassify might still fail, a kid would want to play AAU ball, since it may turn out to be another year before he graduates.Originally posted by BUBrave28 View PostComment

If he can finish high school and graduate before summer - he be free to enroll in college & than he would likely just start summer courses at Bradley and work with our staff as most incoming players have done.
If it takes 'til the end of summer to be able to graduate & reclassify as 2018 then it might mean taking summer high school courses and that might also make it hard to travel around with Indiana Elite...
If we find reports of him playing in all the AAU events thru July, then it would probably be a good bet he will return to high school in the fall and remain a 2019 recruit.

I’d have to do some research since I don’t follow AAU closely, but I thought johntay porter (the younger porter brother at missouri in case I have the first name wrong) and Marvin bagley both played AAU despite reclassifying.
Edit: just looked it up, both played into July of 2017 despite enrolling in fall 2017 classes.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

I've heard Ari Boya is still working toward trying to graduate and be eligible by this fall. He will continue to work through the summer. However, nobody will know what will happen until probably late in the summer.Comment
