  • Dana Altman griping about the scheduling

Twice recently I have read that Dana Altman is openly whining about the MVC schedule.
He gripes about the schedule that Creighton has to play as if his team is the only one who plays league games close together.
Then he also gripes about the Valley starting its conference games too late and should start earlier, before Christmas.
Wasn't there a coach recently who actually got suspended for publicly griping about their conference schedule?

I noticed that, too, and some of the issue is because Dana is playing with some injured personnell and would like to have a way to rearrange his schedule at his option to avoid having to playu without key personnel.
Josh Dotzler did return to action Monday but in 15 minutes of play, he was scoreless. He also had no assists.

In this morning's PJ Star Altman whines that Bradley has "an unfair edge" because of the scheduling.
His complaints even promtped MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin to respond with this comment.

"Next year, that won't be a problem, Elgin said. The way the NCAA schedule is set up for next season, the Valley will be given an extra week to complete its regular season ?????‚???‚?? a setup that should prevent teams from having to play three games in a week.

Elgin stressed that he is mindful of the coaches' scheduling concerns, and that the league does try to look out for every team. But, he added, when trying to schedule a 90-game conference schedule into a calendar that already includes exempt tournaments and a BracketBusters weekend, every team may need to make small concessions.

"Scheduling is one of the most important functions the conference office performs for its basketball teams," Elgin said. "It's paramount that fairness and neutrality rule in the process.

"...Advantages and disadvantages appear throughout the schedule, such as teams playing six road games in an eight-game stretch. It's virtually impossible to smooth out all of those bumps
    ."

So there-- Dana, every team has to take its lumps!
