  • Turnovers & Free Throws

I do not understand why our coaches cannot improve our bad turnover and free throw situations.
In practices, do we full court scrimmage with the coaches stopping action whenever something bad happens such as a turnover or someone out of position on offense and then reviewing the problem. This was a big part of our practices under Stowell and Versace. Also, we don't seem to be 100% focused all the time in games....This is a mental discipline problem which the coaches must address.
Also, do we run competitive free throws with our players at practice or after practice?.....Free throw ladders, etc. or are free throws just an afterthought in pactices?
Do we allow "thread the needle" passes which can result in numerous turnovers.
Again, turnovers and missed free throws are killing us and could ruin what could be a very good season. At this point, these have to be a major concern for our coaches and they must find a way to effectively deal with this.

I just would like to hear the coaches address the turnover issue...
nobody except us fans seems too concerned about it but it's going on now 3 straight years!
We're averaging 15, 16, 17 TO a game - this has to stop - those are complete giveaways and we cannot afford them

Better clean that up quickly or it could be another long season..

I can confirm that we do spend time on free throws and practice including competitive drills that feature free-throw shooting in penalty for missing one.
        Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Coach Wardle addressed the turnovers in his post game interview and was visibly pissed during the 1st half and even called two early timeouts to address this. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop. He said we need to “play better and cannot turn the ball over like that”.

Even though they are still missing them, I see progress in free throws. Yesterday’s game was our best Ft performance all year and we have improved incrementally every game from 50% to 58% to 62% then culminating yesterday at 71%. If this improving trend continues, we will be okay as opponents are shooting 71% against us.

The turnover issue has to be fixed though as there seems to be regression here. .8-1 ATO ratio doesn’t win many ballgames, but somehow we have overcome. It’s not something that we can consistently overcome, however. The thing that has helped us is 3pt shooting and Defense. Fortunately, our opponents have a .8-1 ATO ratio as well and we are shooting 45% as a team from beyond the arc. FINALLY, right? We can’t live and die by the 3 so we must play better and start taking care of the basketball. Should be a good game against Weber State today! Go Braves!

As long as we win I won't get to statistically upset. Silly turnovers bother me for sure. Michigan State always seem to be turnover prone and yet do pretty well. I see they are averaging 19 over the first two games..

We won't be a perfect team....there will be usually be weaknesses like every team in the country. We are better and hopefully will improve as the year goes on

I guess the part that bothers me is that many of these turnovers are completely unforced....stepping on the endline, terrible passes, shuffling feet, slippery hands, moving screens...
These guys are now 21, 22 & 23 years old and have been playing basketball for 18 years and playing against DI defenses with DI refs for 2, 3 and 4 years...
.... so I worry that it isn't going to change..

Unfortunately, I feel the same way, T. However, if we can make a slight improvement and continue to defend, we can still win games. But, they will be down to the wire finishes against teams we should beat by double digits. Similar to yesterday. 😩😩
