The win against Delaware was terrific. A fun game to watch, we were tough inside and much more physical, very good defense, and fewer turnovers.
However, we did a terrible job of managing the game clock and shot clock in the last 3 to 4 minutes. Somehow, our kids seem totally unaware of how to manage the clock....This could cost us dearly as the season progresses.
Our coaches need to teach this and practice it. (1) Do not bring the ball upcourt fast(2) Do not allow your opponent to shoot free throws and score when the clock is not running.(3) No "thread the needle passes,(4) Do not shoot until the shot clock is in the last few seconds, (5) Always be aware of the game clock and shot clock,(6)Do not take quick/bad shots.
Our point guards must be very good at clock management and should control the offense in this area when needed. Coaches need to instill this skill in our players.
