  • Muller to Louisville?

    "Ten Realistic Candidates"?

I am sure the Louisville fans would love that! A mid-major coach who never came within 4 games of 1st place until last year, and then in the weakest year for the MVC in decades, he only tied for 1st. Plus, he's never gotten an NCAA bid and his NIT record is only 2-2....not to mention leading the MVC in player arrests and citations.

I wish Muller all the success in the world, but every one of the other coaches on that list that have head coaching experience have far better credentials. I don't think ISU has anything to worry about.

Muller's been able to land some talent at ISU - but therein lies a degree of responsibility to get a little more done than a couple NIT wins in his tenure..
Now he faces a real test this year - as he will need a good job of coaching to win when you have no seniors except one grad transfer who has never played for him before.

btw- hasn't he recruited multiple players who then signed, enrolled, started classes, then were declared ineligible? (Hawkins, McIntosh, Copeland) as well as an awful lot with serious arrests & drug issues - including one that was recruited and played right after a felony conviction - while he was still on parole and another who had felony DUI's!! Plus gobs of kids who were run off because of those & other issues (Lofton, Keane, Lynch, Griffin).

That's TWO guys who were on the roster at the same time who had FELONY CHARGES/CONVICTIONS!!

Isn't this exactly the kind of recruiting and player personnel that Louisville is suffering from right now? The last thing Louisville needs is to hire a guy running a renegade program just to get a few wins and a couple NIT bids!

I think it is just reflecting the fact that Louisville is not going to be able just grab a top coach. Most good candidates know they can get a job that won't have huge reputation am bits and most likely severe NCAA penalties etc coming down soon.

Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

I hear ya and I agree it won't be easy..... but money talks....and BIG money talks loud...
IU got a decent guy right after the Kelvin Sampson scandal
and Baylor got a good one right after Dave Bliss....
Ohio State had to fire O'Brien in 2004 for paying players but instantly got an even better coach in Thad Matta

keep in mind they were paying Rick Pitino about $8 million per year...
they could offer 1/10th of that and still get a lot of good people interested...

Even after the worst scandal of all time at Penn State in their football program, the program was considered toxic but they just made a
nice $25 mil monetary offer to Vanderbilt's head coach and he took it in a heartbeat!
