looks like even the Ivy League schools cheat big time and pay to land recruits

another cheating scandal emerging....
Florida players reportedly took impermissible benefits from a well known GAMBLING kingpin and his henchmen...(rental cars, drinks, parties, possibly payoffs)
but the story is much more complex and involves feuds between the players and the gamblers, fights, guns, and possibly gang-related hit squads...

Is DePaul hiring assistant coaches specifically to lure Brian Bowen?
Brian Bowen is one of the nation's top rated remaining uncommitted basketball recruits. The Class of 2017 five-star La Lumiere small forward is a consensus top-20 national recruit, and most expect him to choose between Michigan State, Creighton and Arizona, with T
And now in Louisville's lawsuit against Pitino, intended to get them out of paying off his contract after they fired him, the discovery process has uncovered this text message sent by Pitino to Louisville Assistant Coach Kenny Anderson (who has also been fired), that said-
“DePaul trying to pay Bowen 200 K to come there. Crazy world.”
That is pretty damning. DePaul's name has been rumored to possibly be involved in this scandal, but until today it was nothing more than a rumor. Now the secret is out and DePaul mightexpect a call from the FBI if it hasn't happened already.
I expect DePaul administrators to quickly meet and make some kind of preemptive move as damage control like firing Dave Leitao, or at least suspending him pending further investigation. The only problem is that most of his coaching staff is comprised of these recently-hired assistant coaches who also have dirt on their hands.

but if all they did was make a verbal offer to pay Bowen $200K - how will FBI or NCAA ever find anything they can use as evidence? ...
...surely they wouldn't just take one text from an opposing coach as say-so proof...
when Anthony Davis went to Kentucky, several (three different schools' coaching staffs) sources had heard that UK offered to pay Davis' family $200K and probably did in some surreptitious way...
but of course they could never find a paper trail for proof...

It is a crime to lie to the FBI and the FBI can threaten people with jail, and massive legal costs to defend themselves (see the Muller investigation for examples of this technique to squeeze people and make them dish dirt on others). I do not know if the FBI will investigate DePaul, but if they do, they have the means to get people to talk by giving them immunity from serious crimes and saving them from financial ruin and massive legal costs. I think they have already given immunity to one of the Adidas people involved, which is how a lot of this came out and this whole investigation blew up.

The NCAA doesn't have any subpoena power, or other means to get people to talk, and it is not a crime to lie to the NCAA. Plus we all know they tend to look the other way when their big-boy buddies like Kentucky get caught.

Former DePaul assistant coach denying the $200,000 offer, and says Pitino had some "bad info"', though he admits they hired Bowen's high school coach and AAU coach, apparently to try to land him-
Former University of Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino said he knew DePaul offered to pay prospect Brian Bowen $200,000 to play at DePaul, a violation of NCAA rules, court documents show. “Coach DePaul [sic] trying to pay Bowen 200 k to come here. Crazy world!” Pitino wrote in a text message to Louisville’s former assistant coach,...
???I think people might have gotten some bad info and passed it along to their boss,??? Carter wrote. ???No money was ever offered. We were hiring a staff that all had connections to Bowen. HS Coach, AAU Coach and obviously I had connections to past teams. People shouldn??™t believe what they read.???
