Auburn and head coach Bruce Pearl have self-imposed a post-season ban this season. This is self-imposed penalty related to the findings of the FBI probe of improper benefits to recruits to entice them to attend schools sponsored by Adidas. One of the assistant coaches found guilty in the pay-for-play scheme was Auburn assistant Chuck Person. I think this is likely "damage control" by Auburn. They probably have heard rumors that the NCAA is close to punishing them, so suddenly, even though everyone has known about this corruption for over 3 years, they feel the need to announce this self-punishment.

Also, why not bite the bullet this year where there is at least a chance that there won't be an NCAA tournament. I am surprised they didn't try to argue they self-imposed for last season too.
Georgia Tech received a ban for the 2020 Tournament by the NCAA for major recruiting violations-

But despite the fact the 2020 Tournament was cancelled and was never played, the NCAA ruled that Georgia Tech had satisfactorily served their ban, and thus their penalty is over now and they are eligible this year. What a crock. I wonder if the NCAA would have been so generous if it happened to a mid-major school like Bradley?
