    • bad news for a few college coaches...
one of the advisers who was inside the NCAA bribery scandal & was laundering money & bribing players has filed a plea agreement in which he will become an FBI informant and testify against the other defendants
Munish Sood, one of 10 men arrested by the FBI in September 2017 as part of a probe into corruption in college basketball, pleaded guilty to three felony counts, including conspiracy to commit bribery, honest services fraud and travel act offenses.

        • we are now heading into the 2nd year since the FBI announced this case...

          - virtually nothing has happened in the past year - we know little more now than we did then and nobody has been taken to court - and only one agent has plead guilty to reduced charges- he was fined but has spent no time in jail.
          - the NCAA has barely even acknowledged the FBI's investigation
          - only a handful of assistant coaches have named and have lost their jobs, but none have seen their cases go to court
          - almost all the schools implicated haven't been hit with any NCAA actions
          - the school with the most obvious & overwhelming violations, Louisville, is cruising along and has suffered zero NCAA consequences yet...
(they have fired their coach & AD but the vacating of the 2013 National Championship was NOT because of this FBI case but because of a prior scandal)

Remember - the academic scandal at North Carolina and the Reggie Bush/PJ Mayo payment scandals at USC both took 5+ years to finally conclude - and really ended with the schools getting off with practically nothing except some vacated wins.

I am certainly not surprised - this will drag on for a few more years...then quietly disappear...

When is Dr. Reynolds going to be on here for a chat? This is a question I would like to ask him. Also ask him what the NCAA plans on doing about starting to act like a policing organization instead of one corrupted by greed and power

            • good question as Dr. Reynolds does have a law degree - tho I doubt he'd be able to speak about any specific ongoing case..

                • almost two years in to this FBI case exposing corruption in college basketball recruiting - and finally
the NCAA has begun the inquiry into the violations that obviously occurred - LINK
All they are doing at this point is sending official notification to Louisville that they are beginning an investigation,
we're still probably 2 to 3 more years away from even the earliest official NCAA penalties but this proves how slow they move
when it's the big schools involved....
They also took 6-8 years to investigate the phony classes at UNC...

                  • It was thought that Arizona head coach Sean Miller might have escaped big trouble despite allegations he knew about payments to star player DeAndre Ayton and offers to other players. However, he denied ever knowing anything, and before today, there was no strong evidence he was lying. But today, during the FBI trial of Christian Dawkins, the "fixer who is alleged to have arranged and made payment for high school kids to attend colleges willing to pay for them, secret recordings between Dawkins and an undercover FBI informant were played and the informant testified. Note that Arizona assistant coach Emanuel "Book" Richardson has already plead guilty to federal bribery charges and been fired by Arizona. Miller maintains he never knew anything about the bribes. But in the recordings played in court today, Dawkins is heard saying that Sean Miller knew all about the arrangements. The informant testified, "Sean Miller was taking care of everything for Deandre Ayton and his family."

Deandre Ayton played only 1 season at University of Arizona and is now with the Phoenix Suns. He was the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Maybe that is why they told him he did not have to testify. He is now a defendant. The school and the NCAA have all the information they need to start the process going to punish these people

Good thought. But how would the judge who told Miller he didn't have to testify have known he would become a potential defendant? I am not a lawyer, but I don't think the judge is supposed to have foreknowledge of what the testimony or evidence in a case is until it's presented.

                        • Was it the judge or the prosecutors who told him not to testify? I don't think a judge selects who is going to testify or not. He leaves that up to the prosecutors to present the case to him. I am just theorizing here. Are there any lawyers on this board who can help out here?

                          • It was the judge who deemed Miller's testimony "irrelevant" and told him he he did not have to take the stand.
Arizona Wildcats coach Sean Miller will not testify in the federal trial over corruption from college basketball recruiting practices, a judge ruled.
