  • BU logo quesion

I have a Bradley shirt from about a decade ago with this logo as seen in my avatar...
    - but I have never seen another item ever with the same style Bradley logo

Anyone know?? -was this a prototype before they settled a few years later on the current logo?

    What brand is the shirt?

it is Nike and has the Nike logo on the right side opposite the BU logo
It is definitely not a knockoff - as it was given by the Bradley Athletic Dept. to members of the BSS at one of the summer fundraiser events back in the KK era...

Did they have a separate logo for BSS or Braves Club back then? I can't read the bottom, and honestly don't remember.

I am unaware of either this logo or any other logo other than the standard one being used on any piece of BSS apparel...
That's why I am curious about this item since I sometimes even get asked when I wear it what the logo is and why it is so odd when compared to any other item with a BU logo on it.

            one reason I asked
was because by incorporating the word "Braves" into this logo - it becomes unique and tells everyone who we are

our old logo did the same but our current one sparks questions all the time as to what does it stand for - it just isn't very unique...

it even looks a lot like one local Peoria law firm

and a lot like the BROOKLYN NETS

                Hi Chico,

Can you explain "H--- with political correctness and Haney"?

I ask only in the best of taste. I find no fault with your idea. I just want to understand what you mean.

                Thanks Chico

Haney was an American Indian who came to town to complain about Bradley's mascot.

For those who do not remember him, Michael Haney played a part in "persuading" the NCAA and schools like Illinois and Bradley into eliminating mascots, and in closing the Dixon Mounds museum.

"Among his most prominent targets are college and professional sports teams that use Indian names and images. Haney's year-old Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media has sued or threatened suit against the University of Illinois for its Chief Illiniwek, Bradley University for its Braves, Florida State for its Seminoles, as well as the Washington Redskins, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves."

Hmm which of these are not like the others. I understand the difference between the professional teams, and the NCAA members. However, it just kills me that some schools were allowed to continue regardless of "deals".

The pro teams weren't afraid to tell them to shove off. Too bad more schools didn't have the guts also.

it's kinda out of the schools' hands as NCAA has been the primary mover in forcing schools to abandon any logo or mascot deemed offensive..
plus other schools will refuse to play or schedule teams with offensive logos - all in a politically correct manner

The NCAA and universities want their identity to be thinking institutions. Pro teams are businesses that entertain the viewers. I do understand the difference. Educating human beings about the dignity of all human beings (in theory of course based on the school), or paying 300 lb men to bash each other's brains in for our entertainment.
