Keyshawn Evans - ISU's only returning guard with much experience on the team, probable starter and their 2nd leading scorer among returnees...
..just underwent right shoulder surgery for repair of torn labrum (shooting arm) in April...........
with expected recovery time of 4-6 months - but sometimes (as in Nate Funk) it takes a year.

The Pantagraph's Jim Benson just gave an update...
"Illinois State junior @KeyshawnEvans1 said he is healing nicely after surgery for torn labrum in his right shoulder, expects no problems."

That leaves Phillip Fayne as the only player they will have returning from last year who averaged more than 2 ppg...that appears to be ready to go..

Supposed to be cleared to return to full action in a month according to the Pantagraph today. Plenty of time for the season.
Cheering with pep and vim for the white and purple!

      here's what the article says...

"Evans ... is recovering from surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder in April and can't participate in contact drills.
...Evans, who hopes to be cleared by doctors in another month."

      "Hopes to", not "supposed to"....and..
it is his shooting arm that just had surgery - maybe he will be cleared to work out or start exercising but I just think it would it would be unlikely he'd be fully cleared..

If we are getting into grammar, he is not cleared "for contact drills". He is already exercising and shooting now. Saw him in open gym about a week ago. Time will tell.

What else did you see in that open gym?

A few Valley players have had surgery to repair a torn labrum and in every case it took at least a year before they were back even close to form...just saying...

I cited Nate Funk (took over a year to get back) but there's also Milton Doyle who took almost 2 years before he was close to what he was before surgery...
and SIU's Aaron Cook who had his surgery in 2016 at about the same time Evans did (spring) and was pretty much ineffective all season - shooting 18% from 3-pt

I am not saying you can't come back - Doyle did it and now is playing in the NBA D-League -- just that regardless of when you get "cleared for contact" - it often takes a full year or more to recover to pre-surgery form.

Only stopped for about 10 minutes while visiting the ticket office at arena to move my football parking. Most players were just shooting around as they had not started anything very physical yet. Keyshawn was shooting 3s off of a rack.
