  • Minnesota Controversy

Two recent buyouts of their football and basketball coaches are costing nearly $10 million, just to get rid of the guys they had, and then they will, of course, be spending big time to hire the replacements. Taxpayers are really upset, and some legislators are trying to enact legislation to prohibit any of the $123 million apportioned for the state university system from being used.
(this will be interesting to see if the school can pull these buyouts off if they don't use state funds.)

I thought Minnesotans liked being taxed.

Good for them. I've no problem with a private school, but the taxpayers should not have to foot these buyouts. Just ridiculous.

So if not the taxpayers, then who is there that actually provides those dollars?

One more bummer for Minnesota, their best scorer, Spencer Tollackson is out with injury for several weeks.
They scored only 49 in a 60-49 loss at Iowa, and lost at Wisconsin 68-45.

This is the first time since 1977 that they scored under 50 two consecutive games.

Minnesota really needs to beat Illinois tomorrow or the fans will begin to get on Molinari.

Maybe they should not give out long term contracts if they are not willing to keep these coaches until the end; I don"t blame the taxpayers because the university should not be using that money for athletics; if the boosters cannot raise the money for a buyout then you are stuck till the end of the contract.
