  • Proposed NCAA rule change would allow basketball season to start earlier

The NCAA will consider a new proposal to allow the start of Division I college basketball 3 days earlier than currently allowed. The proposal would allow the season to start on the Tuesday before the 2nd Friday of November, three days earlier than the current rule. The change is being considered to alleviate the compressed early-season schedule, since there are many tournaments in November. To offset the extra 3 days, the NCAA also is proposing a 3-day "period during a school??™s winter break in which required athletically related activities are prohibited for basketball student-athletes". That would take effect some time during each school's winter break.

These rule changes would not take effect until November, 2018 at the earliest, as the NCAA wil not be voting on this until some time next year.
