However, the Valpo beat writer for the NW Indiana Times seems shocked that this would be announced while Valpo is still a member of the Horizon League-

I just think they'll be one of the bottom teams in the MWC,
...only 2 teams in the MWC finished with a worse conference record, and one of them, UNLV has landed one of the top recruiting classes with 4-Star and 5-Star kids coming in.
Utah State was a very bad road team, they lose their best player & team leader and return almost all underclassmen..
I think Valpo can handle them at home

Valpo may not be real good next season, either.
4 of their top 5 players were seniors this past year (though one of them might get a 5th year because of injury), including losing the Horizon League Player of the Year, Alec Peters, and their only other All-Conference player Shane Hammink (2nd team). They also lose their top 3-point shooters.
And they do not have a blockbuster recruiting class. They do have several redshirt players sitting out who might help right away, but I don't see that replacing what they lost. They'll probably be picked in the MVC preseason poll somewhere between 5th and 8th.
